KARACHI: The induction of nuclear submarine in Indian Navy is a step towards destabilizing the region, said Pakistan Navy.

Commenting on the induction of nuclear submarine in Indian Navy, spokesman of Pakistan Navy Salman Ali said Indian nuclear submarine will leave far reaching affects not only Pakistan but also Indian Ocean and adjoining coastal countries. It is a step towards destabilizing the entire region, which could be dangerous for regional peace and balance.

The spokesman said Indian nuclear submarine could launch nuclear arms race in the region. Government will decide about manufacturing of nuclear submarine as Pak Navy is fully prepared to materialize any decision of government, he added.

I doubt the submarine design or technology is Indian. Its probably just being assembled locally, like many of their “Indigenous warships”. But if they did design and build it, then its quite an achievement.
I don’t think this changes anything for Pakistan. You have to look at the strategic implications of nuclear submarine. What can it do that their existing submarines cannot? Nuclear allows it to go on longer deeper missions. Pakistan is right next door, they don’t need a nuclear sub for us. Yes nuclear subs are quiet, but now-a-days, AIP diesel subs are just as quiet. So its obvious to me that this capability is aimed at China, or other powers.

Well, it does allow them a relatively secure place to launch missles.

Their land and air based systems can be attacked more readily.

Pak will more then likely find a way to countr this… Although it will be expensive.
