25% is the annual growth rate for demand for air travel in india. this was expected given how expensive air travel used to be under goverment run airlines. privatization has opened up this brand new market to the indian middle class.

Re: India buys half of world's planes
While living in Pakistan for third month in a row I have realized that we do need some budget airlines here in Pakistan as well.
Though travelling from Lahore to Karachi (return) costs around 9200 (90 GBP) but still looks expensive when I think of flying from Nice to Luton or Amsterdam to Luton (average return cost is around 60GBP if booked in two weeks advance by easyjet). Or even cheaper if I am taking Ryanair.
While I was in Canada last year I travelled from Toronto to Ottawa in CAD 140 (return) by westjet & the bus fare was 148 CAD. I remember taking a Delta shuttle from NewYork to Boston in US$79 (oneway) almost same fare as bus.
In this fast moving age I think India or indian airlines have taken a good step. I think Pakistanis should do the same & shoudl try to open couple more airline companies (if possible). I did travel by airblue (or blueair - dont even remmeber their name correctly) they are kinda budget airline in Pakistan but still the standard is pretty low compared to budget airlines in Europe.
Re: India buys half of world’s planes
Maybe Pakistan should outsource this sector to Indian companies.
Re: India buys half of world’s planes
That makes no sense…why would anyone outsource from a low wage to higher wage market?![]()
Re: India buys half of world’s planes
You are right, the newly introduced budget airline in Pakistan is AirBlue. I haven’t travelled in that so do not know about its standard. But the domestic airlines of US does not have any standard as well, however, cheap they are. The condition of the planes and quality of their service is appalling.
With that many planes on order, although most are to replace the existing fleet, India will run into an accute shortage of pilots. A pro-active approach to handle that situation is required from this moment to get the pilots trained and the infrastructure improved and expanded.
