-India will soon have more people infected with HIV than any other country in the world: World Bank (September 2004)
-In India, 700 million people and 120 million households have no access to public or private toilets. Fifty million bucket toilets are cleaned by half a million "scavengers" (Untouchables). This has led to atmospheric pollution, health hazards and a class of people who clean up the excreta of others: Asia Times (June 2003)
-India has the highest number of poor people living under $1 a day, the international line of poverty:World Bank (August 2004)

Re: India 12th wealthiest nation in 2005
Welldone. In sheer numbers India has a huge economy. The UNHD report 2005 states that c. 80% of Indians live under $2/day, but 850 million * 2 is what $1.7bn dollars between them daily, now that times 365 gives about $620.5 bn dollars annually just thru them.
