PCG: computer was once a luxury than turned into necessity. Same with TV, ipod, HD and playstation. These clothes are expensive now because new...let it grow than it will be cheap and available to public.
business environment so far has not been impacted by political turmoil. if the current team comes back to power, pak will be a different country by the time next election comes around:
Machinery import crosses billion dollars mark in two months
KARACHI (September 23 2007): Machinery sector’s imports crossed one billion dollars mark during the first two months of the current fiscal due to huge demand of agriculture, telecom and power generation machinery, importers told *Business Recorder *on Saturday.
They said that huge imports of agricultural machinery had played prominent role in the growth of machinery import, as new agriculture reforms and loan availability for the agriculture had raised the demand of agriculture and its allied machinery.
also wrt to my earlier post, its good to see increase in import of agriculture machinery. agriculture is the most important sector for pak in terms of employment. also poverty is much higher in rural areas than in cities which causes deyhaatis to migrate to cities which puts pressure on city's khusta infrastructure. best way to tackle ghurbuth in pak is to improve rural economy which means improving the agriculture sector. also more production of food items will decrease food inflation which is being driven by pak population profile. pak' has a young and growing population which is causing increase in demand for food. also people are eating better than before.
So much wealth has been generated in the last 8 years under Musharraf as never seen before in our history, and that is why most people are reluctant to come out and support the failed leaders of the past.
According to Internet World Stats internet users have gone up 8,861.9 % in last 7 years.
also more production of food items will decrease food inflation which is being driven by pak population profile.
but weren't you the one defending "export" of food items, so even if "more" food items are produced don't you think they will all be exported?
People don’t realize it, but they have eased up investment procedures to such an extent, that pakistan has jumped 57 spots on the “easiness of doing business” list. It now sits on 76 after 5 years. Before musharraf, Pakistan had one of the worst rankings. Its a huge deal to climb that list. Every startup or a company looking to expand in the universe usually goes through it in one way shape or form.

Absolutely! A huge economic achievment by Musharraf.
article sharticle…:halo: ground reality is quite the opposite to wht this moron portraits in the article. we may have the economy on the boom and money coming in but how exactly is all this helping the middle and lower class in pakistan? roughly 10% of the population is controlling 90% resources n money of the country. common person has to think 5 times before buying 1KG of milk and sugar and you r telling me economy is on the rise. yeah so is poverty and prices of common goods. government may have raised the salaries of employees by 50% but at the same time prices of commodities have been risen to 200% in some cases.how r these people suppose to survive on a RS 5000 salary where a single utility bill exceeds the amount of RS 5000/month so conveniently. you can talk about all the economical boom and prosperity but unless a common person becomes part of the share, that boom and progress is merely stuffing the pockets of those that are already filthy rich to begin with.
^ That's where the trickle down effect comes into play. Oh wait, maybe the government forgot to factor in the insane class-difference issues that Pakistanis have. Trickle down effect would work if kameenay Pakistani elitists would decide to take their rupee they earned from their upper-class business on spend it on a lower-class aadmi's dukaan, or maybe gasp even give employment to the lower-class aadmi. But we can't have one of those standing behind our classy boutique counter where we sell IMPORTED maal to the rich Pakistani.
Oh and forget buying things that are Pakistani made. To this day, despite Pakistan's textile mill boom, Pakistani women will ask "Yeh Pakistan ka bana hua hai?" when buying kapra, prompting the honest and very religious maulvi of a dukaandaar to reply immediately with a "Nai, baaji yeh Japani hai".
^^^ class difference exists in all third world countries and in fact difference gets worse faster the economy grows which is exactly whats happening in china currently. when economy is going through rapid growth, govt's role should be to ensure businesses share the benefit of growth by paying higher taxes. govt in turn should invest taxes to inprove the lives of poor people by building better schools and providing better health facilities. taxes should be spent on improving infrastructure which causes job growth.
in the case of pak, its going to take time before we will see an improvement in the standard of living of lower tubqa given the high number of poor people and rapid population growth. in addition, given that most govt officials at the ground lvl are incompetent, more money initially might not translate into better services in the short run.
most people in pak have no idea about economics. people think there is ali baba khazana in islamabad which should be used for the beneit of awam. unfortunately reality is opposite and pak was bankrupt until few years back. this govt has done a great job in turning things around but current policies have to be sustained in the medium term for poverty to be tackled on an effective basis.
I thought we were muslims going to Heaven. I mean, just look at the beautiful naats they show on TV. We can’t have class differences; we’re better than other “Westernized” countries.
class difference existed even in the early days of islam which is why rich people had to pay zakat. note however that islam does not tell you that you should give all your wealth to poor people or to the government.
i do agree with you larger point that most muslims are hypocrites when it comes to looking after poor. rich pakistanis dont pay taxes and ministers ride around in mercs while little children work for a living. in this respect western countries are much more muslim. poor people over there can still lead a dignified life.
