What bothers me is that some folks out of hatred for the ruling parties tend to start thinking on the lines of supporting those that chose to go against policies that are meant to do good in the country. All of a sudden our friendship with China corridor and friendship which was always a beacon of hallmark support was being criticized by the opposition parties and some of them even came up with hollow statements like the Chinese were looking out for themselves. Of course they are looking out for themselves, just like any good self respecting nation would but that does not curtail us from mutually benefiting as well based on geo political factors. Even Raheel Sahrif’s initial appointment was met with skepticism and some folks were attributing his selection his last name and his ethnicity (the same folks who are now full of praises for him, which is a relief because he has done exceptionally well and deserves acclaim). Playing the role of a good opposition does not necessarily imply that you have to oppose every single thing.

Almost seems like we have become so divided and over critical as a nation and are weak. Remember, we claim (and quite rightly so) that we stood up to aggression in 1965 and it wasn’t the top brass of our military that got us that, it was the morale of the jawans and the people that thwarted the enemy aggression. That morale is no where to be found in the people anymore because we have become squabbling duds.

Some of that criticism was legitimate - the confusing over Eastern/Western route - but bit of talking and push for more clarification only made the CEPC deal look stronger and more beneficial once all issues were cleared. It was such a huge deal, and almost too good to be true, don’t you think it is totally unnatural and unreasonable not to accept at least some skepticism due to lack of information (which always is the case at the beginning of anything).

I think most people knew from the beginning that Gen Raheel belonged to a distinguish military family and had no far way links with Sharif family. They certainly publish new COAS’ profile whenever he gets appointed. His ethnic background may have been issue in the same old usual circles.

Just because some people have intense political differences, doesn’t mean they will start abusing their country’s good name, its institution, its history, its people, its achievements, even when the occasion doesn’t call for it. Some people are master at that, and it is happening in some other threads as we speak.
