Re: In honor of Dads everywhere - share a story of your dad.

I remember when my dad was teaching me how to swim. For some reason, he thought it would be easier to teach me in the ocean than in a pool… -__-
Dad decided we should make a trip out of it, so a bunch of our family friends planned a trip to go down to some super popular beach and have a grand old time.
So we get there, and everyone heads straight for the water. I, being the only one in the bunch who doesn’t know how to swim, decide I’m going to sit back with my mom (who has an insane fear of deep water because of some crazy something or other that happened to her when she was younger). Any way, so my dad’s having a ball, swimming, showing off all the cool things he can do, racing the guys, playing football in the water, the whole 9…
So finally, I walk … very slowly and carefully into the water and start walking towards my dad. I quietly say “Baba, you’re supposed to teach me :bummer:” He laughs and says “sorry beta. I completely forgot!” :smack:
So he starts teaching me how to float, mind you, everyone is watching me now because my dad’s laugh was about 10 notches too loud! I get floating down, and then all of the sudden a wave hits me and I’m tipping over onto my side. I dad manages to get back on his feet and is floating/ swimming. I start yelling “BABA!! I’M GOING UNDER!!” :hehe: He laughs, again, tells me “you’re fine. Stand up and try it again.” -____-
Yeh… i didn’t stand up because I couldn’t find the ground, I went under, he went down to pick me up and some how tickled my feet so I took a huge gulp of water in. SO smart!

Needless to say, I spent the rest of the time either sitting on his shoulders or in the shallow end :cb:

Re: In honor of Dads everywhere - share a story of your dad.

When I was little my dad and I took a trip to singapore and we went shopping to bring back gifts for my mom, my sister, and of course me. I saw a toy and asked if I could have it and he said yes and I asked again if I could get one for my brother. he said yes when we went back home I told my mom that I got a gift for my brother and my mom looked at my dad and said "Since when does she have a brother?" and facepalmed because he said "oh"

I bet I was very convincing at the age of 4 or 5 :D

:rotfl:

We lived in Karachi and I was in second grade. My school had a dress up day and I was dressed up as a flower. I was drenched in flowers from head to toe in a eggplant colored khara duppatta. I won first place and I got my little trophy things but the gift baskets were to be handed out later. Somehow mine got misplaced or given away. My abu took the vendors address from the principal and went and bought it before they could be handed out to everyone. Ofcourse I just remember getting gift basket at that time. My ami told me years later that we didn't have a car but your dad rushed off on his motorcycle just so you wouldn't stand on the stage with a sad face.

Re: In honor of Dads everywhere - share a story of your dad.

My dad was very much like chips dad. He was 21 when my daddi passed away and she left him as an advocate for my 4 phoophos youngest of which was 6 months old. He raised them as his own children and fighting my grandfather for their happiness in education, marriage and life.

My dad is emotional person. He believes in giving your all to relationships. He believes in soul mates and head over heals love. He believes in power of education and that money can be earned over and over but moments in time cannot come back again. He taught his children to dream BIG, Live bigger and most of of all his girls to be all they can be.

He's a religious man. He carries his religion with him in humbleness. He dislikes the words that "he is proud of children because pride is a sin. He thanks God that Allah had listen to his duas for his children.

All I know is that there is someone looking out for me everyday. Someone who has my back. Someone who I turned to. Who prays for my happiness everyday and that's my dad

love you dad and happy fathers day!

Same here.I remember there opened a new bakery in our neighborhood in Lahore.I must be around 8 and my sister around 4 years old.Our favorite activity was to make abu take us there on Fridays (back then Friday used to be the day off) and get whatever we wanted. The store used to carry fancy cookies, imported chocolates and some new chips and stuff like that which looked so fascinating just to buy.My sister used to to call it ‘hum thaailay bharnay ja rahay hain’ (as if they gave out free stuff..!).They also used to have a fancy stationery shop next door and sell cool stuff. My sister used to buy pretty ‘geometry boxes’ (that is pencil cases),which she very lovingly never used, and I used to collect nice smelling erasers (I did not use them either). It makes me think where did those assets go…:hmmm:
Ammi was never too happy with any of this..
It had always been a very usual weekend thing to go dine out.Back then there was not a new restaurant opening up every day,so choices were limited, but still loads of fun.

It was a great childhood,Alhumdullilah.
It makes my heart ache to think about it and miss them and not being able to just go to them and give them a hug.I sometimes hate living so far from them.

I always got the loving from mum. Dad was much more about tough love. Preparing me and my siblings for the big bad world. Looking back, I wouldnt have had it any other way. He is a joker. For halloween when we were younger, he dressed up as a sheikh and took us from door to door like that. He also believes in hard work there were times when he came home bone tired but didnt complain once and played around with us. He loves winding my mum up.....

Re: In honor of Dads everywhere - share a story of your dad.

woww .. !! nice stories every1.

My best memories of my father is the beating of my life i got from him at the age of 6/7 ..

I was in 2nd or 3rd grade and to be honest I was nothing more than the below average student. I still remember, once i had the science test and i didnt prepared it, so i decided to bunk the school but my class teacher had other idea’s, she called my father and asked him, if everything is ok with me. He told her, yes everything is ok and I will not only attend the school tomorrow but will also do the test.

Then he called my mum and told her that " his laal has bunked the school", meanwhile he sent two soldiers to hunt me down and i guess, it only took them 5 mins to do so. Anyways then my father came on the site and he took me home with him and as soon we reached home, he took off his belt and i got the beating of my lifetime. :frowning:

Ooppsss… !! forget to mention, my father was in Pakistani Army, so now u can imagine the size and shape of belt. :hehe:

My bad luck at that time, sweepers were cleaning the lawn of my house :smack: . My father told them to stop cleaning and gave me the jharoo (twice the height of my size) and told me to start sweeping. Once i done cleaning it, he told me to start cleaning the the street. Once i finished it, he told me to start cleaning the neighbour lawns, one by one :crying:

When finally i finished sweeping all the lawns, my father asked " So, now wat u want to do tomorrow, go to school or do the sweeping".
I told him, i will not only go to school, i will top my class in the next coming examz. Not only i topped my class that year. I topped my school in Matric examz, I topped 5/8 smessters during Engineering, only got two “B’s” overall. Topped my MSc. Won the European scholarship for Phd.

Thats my life story, so watever i’m today, its becoz of my father and the beating i took at age of 6/7 and i can’t thank him enuff for dat.
