Re: In an unstable Pakistan, can nuclear warheads be kept safe? - Seymour Hersh
pakistani nukes are inherently a threat to what seems to be US strategic interests and the safety of their real and genuine allies. i believe the US, the world community and many pakistani citizens have very legitimate concerns about any pakistani nuclear program including civilian use
besides i think pakistanis should agree with the US, afterall most agree with them on every other point. denuclearising pakistan is a very important step on the road to victory on the war on terror
if pakistan can fight a civil war on this phylosophy then surely you can see the imperative
to appreciate how dangerous pakistan is, we must look back to the recent history. acts of terror committed by pak state:
*participated in both chechen and bosnian civil wars by islamist motivation
*killed innocent israelli pilots with a 100% strike rate, islamist motivation
*refusal to recognise israel, islamist motivation
*supporting multiple, violent insurgencies in ALL its neighbouring countries
*nuclear poliferation, anti-US and islamist motivation
*linked to ALL high profile terror attacks of the 21st century
*issueing direct threats of nuclear attack on another state on multiple occasions
*ran unofficial armies within and outside pakistan under a shared islamist understanding
*was contemplating giving nuclear weapons to an extremist foreign government (talibs) for safe keeping after defying world requests not to test nuclear bombs
by no means a complete list but enough to validate concerns
