Re: I'm goin mad now!
just a thought -- worst case scenario if no one wants to exchange anything, would it be really bad if you wore the same colour on both days?
you'll obviously be wearing different jewellery, right? so it's possible to have a totally different look for each day, and successfully too - different dupatta settings, hair, makeup, etc.
maybe you can improvise like that? it'll probably keep the inlaws' egos intact, and you can have your preferred outfit too.
Re: I'm goin mad now!
Finally, a sigh of relief!
The problem hasn't been sorted yet but your post has really calmed me down..I was trying to think on that line last night but lacked the much needed conviction! But now, I'm feeling much better..thanks a lot!
Re: I'm goin mad now!
Glad it has been resolved but hun please take this situation as a lesson for your future marriage and learn to compromise otherwise we might see you on this forum linked to other "ISSUES"
Re: I'm goin mad now!
Hahaa..I hope so not!
But on a serious note, I've realized why my mom and friends keep telling me to "grow up".

:)
btw i might also be in your situation – the same colour on both days – and weirdly enough it's my inlaws who've done both the outfits... unplanned but it happened that whatever they loved just happened to be red.
but oh well...

hahah i get that too.
what it is about upcoming weddings that brings out the spoilt little 5 year old girls in all of us? :P
Re: I'm goin mad now!
So, Gul, did you find a solution?
Re: I'm goin mad now!
My ma-in-law has gone to the designer to get it changed, let's see what happens!
fingers crossed

I'm yet to figure that out!
And as for you being a victim of a similar crime (yeah, it's a crime on us..lol!) I kinda feel happy not coz I'm a sadist but I have at least one person who can relate to me...
Re: I'm goin mad now!
glad to share the woes :)
if it makes you feel better – at least you've seen one of your outfits... i haven't seen either (and won't be able to until the day before the nikah)!
and the suspense is killing me, i can tell you that.
hope your MIL can find a replacement.. good luck!
Re: I'm goin mad now!
Why haven't you seen the dress bought by your parents? Conservative people, eh?
Re: I'm goin mad now!
^Any luck with your dress so far?
well, initially i was to buy the nikah outfit and inlaws would pick up the tab (so perfect).
but then they saw a pretty lehnga and they bought it... and then a whole lot of sarees too. so now both nikah and valima outfits are from the inlaws -- and they live way far away.
i won't get to see it mostly due to logistics. plus they probably think it'll be nice and traditional to have a grand unveiling the night before...
at this point i just hope the tailoring is good.

Hey, same boat as me! I didn't see my dresses till the Mehndi day. They were brought along with the bari and only the wedding dress was left with us and the rest was again taken away.
Don't worry, everything will turn out great. Book a parlour and go out for pampering.
Re: I'm goin mad now!
ahhh pampering... best idea ever :)
tell me did you ever have to deal with such questions from random friends and aunties:
"sooooo what are you wearing on your wedding day??... WHAT! you don't.. know?? why??"
or
"what do you mean they can't show you.. you're the BRIDE"
and
"what if you don't like it.. don't you get a say.. at all?? but it's YOUR wedding!"
etc. etc.
haha it really surprises some people.. but now i've learnt to shrug them off in a very zen way.
being zen is my new thing.
Re: I'm goin mad now!
Yeah, such questions keep popping up but one must learn to ignore them coz they don't know our culture..But honestly speaking, such suspenses often end up as real treats and that are worth cherishing!

Been unlucky there!
The designer refused to change it citing stupid reasons....I received a huge setback when my fiance broke the news to me but koi baat nahi, I'm well satisfied and happy with the huge range of saris that I already possess!
Let our mil relax. talk to her again. maybe you can sell one of the outfit and buy another one so you dont wear 2 of the same color!
I dont want to wear red to my shaadi but what do I wear if I dont wear red?
I am sad. Actually deeply frustrated, irritated, depressed...you name all the unhappy moods and you'll find me suffering from all of them!
The wedding dress my in laws have brought is nearly of the same color that we've bought..The only difference is mine is georgette and theirs is net.
It happened so because we being conservative Pathans, the brides-to-be aren't included in any selection process by the groom's side but my mom had seen it much before we bought ours..My mil said she'll get it changed if we don't like anything about it but momma appreciated it then..And when we went to purchase ours, the piece I liked had the same color! We remembered what my mil had said about changing n stuff so, reluctant, we got the same color! And even the showroom owner said they have single pieces throughout, as in, they don't have same designs in different colors!
I've tried persuading, sweet talking my fiance a lot in getting the color changed but he says he cannot do much about it because his mom is a bit irritated that we knowingly committed that mistake and that she's not sure if the designer will compromise anyhow!
All my enthusiasm and zeal has fizzled out unbelievably..I even had a heated arguement with my fiance last night but now I feel sorry coz he's a sweet guy and shouldn't be bearing the brunt of all...
Please pray for me...lol!

oh that's a bummer but I'm sure you'll look fabulous! so what colour saree have you decided? and what kind?
gotta love 'em all... have a HUGE collection myself :)
