Pakistan President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) patron Asif Ali Zardari has reportedly decided to terminate the services of PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt.
Butt’s contract will expire in October.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has started to look for suitable candidates for the post.
It has also been reported that former PCB CEO Arif Ali Khan Abbasi and former PCB ad-hoc committee chairman Dr. Zafar Altaf are front runners for the post.
Abbasi was PCB CEO from January 1994 to May 1996.
Dr. Altaf was the PCB ad-hoc committee chairman between October and December 1999.
Butt was appointed PCB chairman in October 2008 for a period of two years, which later got extend.

KARACHI: Former chairman Ad-hoc committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Dr. Zafar Altaf, has emerged as the main contender for replacing current cricket board chief Ijaz Butt, sources revealed The Sports Encounter here Sunday.

Sources said that the Patron-in-chief of PCB and President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has seen enough of Ijaz Butt and now is looking to replace him with someone who is man of letters.
Dr Zafar Altaf and Zahid Bashir separately called on Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at a lunch hosted by Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo in Okara here Sunday where both individuals presented their cases for the top PCB jobs, sources added.

Prime Minister Gilani was in Okara to address a public meeting of the Pakistan Peoples Party and is being hosted by the veteran PPP leader Mian Manzoor Wattoo.
Dr. Zafar Altaf was the chairman of Ad-hoc committee of PCB for a short period during October 1999 to December 1999 while Mian Zahid Bashir has previously worked in the PCB as General Manager Marketing from 2000 to 2003 during the tenure of Tauqir Zia and was appointed as Press Secretary of Prime Minister in 2010.
Ijaz Butt
Dr. Zafar Altaf is looking to replace Ijaz Butt while Mian Zahid Basheer, who is the current Press Secretary of Prime Minister Gilani, is in the running for taking over Subhan Ahmed as new Chief Operating Officer in the PCB.
Ijaz Butt was appointed as PCB chairman in October 2008 for a period of two years and last year he got an extension till the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

Both Gillani and Zardari are known for putting their cronies into powerful positions. Gillani is no less of a moron than Zardari.
All these bhuddas like Ijaz Butt, Zafar Altaf, Arif Abbassi etc have all been there and done that.
If the PCB wants to go back to someone who has been there before, the best choice for this would be Ramiz Raja.
If they want to go with someone new, then I hope they go for an educated, professional person who has a strong Management and corporate background.
Jahils like Ijaz Butt should never be given the reins of the PCB ever again.
