AQ is no doubt hero of Pakistan. But problem is PMLN and it Government in Punjab. because they do not accept present Judges and so can not release AQ. Shabaz Shariff in a big fix

People and Government of Pakistan fully know.Thats why Dr.Samar is the only man today in Pakistan who was awarded Pakistan 3 highest Civil Awards.Even Dr.Abdul Qadir is awarded with 2 only.

Its truly a bold move by PPP government, look at the history of our country how powerful military/civil bureaucracy is, credit should be given !

I dont know people supplying technical knowledge here or pointing out who is responsible and who is culprit are the scientists or what, but let me share something.

Um...around five years back or so I'd visited Islamabad and met a young scientist who was one of the leading in the whole team of Atomic Commission. At that time he was under house arrest from the Govt. I found him very frustrated on whatever was going on. When I tried to discuss about the atomic capability of Pakistan, he just said that A.Q Khan and his companions have done a priceless job for the country but the way situation has been turned upside down for them, he doesnt hope Pak's nucluer program will make any progress.

I remember I returned from his home with a heavy heart with a very lil hope myself. Just wish it becomes better now.

Look I don't wanted to derail their thread into useless reply's, but let me give you something, if Genie is out of bottle according to you, then please tell the genie to try to stop American attacks on Pakistan soil. Genie didn't work their ? So let's put it back in the bottle, nuclear weapons become liability for Pakistan. They suppose to protect us, but what is happening is a 180 degree turn, we are protecting nukes, funny right.

Yes Institutions are important not ppl but those who contribute to this institution, dont they deserve to be given proper respect and gratitude? I mean, if we act upon blindly on what you just mentioned then Quaid-e-Azam should have been house arrested as well immediately after 14th August 1947. After all, country is important, not the leader ;)

AQK was a face of Pakistan and yet again he is released by Government on their own rules, so if so called publilc love him, he should be free years ago, bitter truth !..

Ex CJ Iftekhar(Now perhaps a PML N leader) did not give any attention to Dr Qadir,He did not hear bail application of Zardari twice presented to him.There was only one lawer Chauhdari Ikram who was fighting for Dr Qadir and fighting against Musharraf. Now you can see many so called lawer leaders.

Alhamdulilallah. God Bless the Islamabad High Court, which was set-up by former President Great Pervaiz Musharaf, the greatest Pakistani leader since Quaid-e-Azam. The court was set-up by exercising powers under the PCO of Nov 3, 2007. PM Gilani today stated that the release of AQ Khan was nothing to do with the government, but a decision by an 'Independent' court. Slowly but surely, Pakistanis are accepting that the Judiciary is free and marches planned by the EX CJ and PML (N) are just waste of time.

By the way, in my opinion, despite being one of the main persons responsible for helping Pakistan become a nuclear power, AQ Khan brought shame to the nation by his admittedly heinous crime of selling nuclear technology to rogue nations. Due to his actions, Pakistan is now classified as an irresponsible nuclear nation and prolifrator of nuclear technology to rogue elements.

I do not condone AQ Khan's nuclear proliferation activities - that was plain stupid and immoral, even detrimental to our national security; perhaps his ego and greed got the better of him, perhaps he just had a brainstorm - but to think that he could have transported all those centrifuges to North Korea, Libya and Iran without Musharraf, his predecessors and the army knowing is hogwash.

And while it may not be the all, nuclear enrichment is an essential first step in the development of nuclear weapons. I know there were several other scientists (atleast 2,000 of them back in the 80s. The number has probably doubled by now) who worked tirelessly hard during the 70s and 80s to get us where we are now but without AQ there would be no bomb - period. Just like there were several other important players in Pakistan movement but without Jinnah there would be no Pakistan. Samar Mubarakmand is regarded as the main architect of Pakistan's missile program but it still does not undermine AQ's status as the father of Pakistan's nuclear programme.

And if you think one could become a nuclear power just by stealing nuclear secrets, then every third country would have acquired this capability during the cold war in the 70s and 80s. You need brains too. That also explains why countries like Libya and Iran have not got beyond the enrichment stage. Iran probably already has the bomb but does not have the means as yet to deliver it.

And once you are a recipient of Nishan-i-Imtiaz (the highest honour given to a civilian in Pakistan), the other two Hilal-i- Imtiaz (2nd-highest) and Sitara-i-Imtiaz (third highest) are of no consequence

Had Jinnah survived a few more years he would have given us a workable system of governance. But it is probably just as well that he died when he did. Knowing some of us Pakistanis we would have found enough reasons to find 'khaamiyan' in Jinnah too if he had lived a few more years. Nit-picking is in our genes

While some of you are right in condemning AQ's proliferation activities, but to say that he played little or no role in us becoming a nuclear power is only ehsan faraamoshi
