If you were the owner of GS, what would you do ...

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

It took me two hours to write it. Someone better read it! :asa: :cb:

If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

I read it madzz! I agree and disagree both but my main issue is the user friendliness and appearance. I just want a prettier GS. I mostly use GS from my phone and it gives me hiccups.

Agree about the personal attacks part, that shouldn’t be tolerated at all but I don’t often see many reminders or post in the middle of a discussion that tells people to calm down, I’ve seen even mods takes sides. It generally was a happier place when I first signed up in 2010/2011 to plan my wedding.

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

I like the clean look of the site. Hope it is not changed drastically if it ever happens.

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

Agreed and managed to make only couple of friends without meeting them in person. So a :biggthumb: for me. :hehe:

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

If I were the owner I would encourage everyone to lighten up (levity, not fair & lovely).

Mostly I miss the drama, other times I ignore it out of disinterest. I do not mean to be dismissive of people’s concerns, but I am not sure one can fix human behaviour when it relates to large groups.

One can be mindful of oneself. A quart of objectivity and enough sense to know not to drown in a cup of water is really all that is required.

To retain members/attract new ones, be interesting. One controversial thread every few weeks is not interesting.

This no trusting behavior is not necessarily a GS thing. People used to be generally more open online than now. Many of the guppies, including myself had their real full name as their nicks, which almost everyone later modified. There was a thread in 2007 in image forum about what you are wearing, and many ladies posted thier pics (not the head cut shot, but full picture).

That trust level is long gone. But again, it has very little to do with GS.

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

I agree with a lot of what Madz has said, minus the friendships part. I’ve made some really good friends on here, without ever meeting in person.

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

TLK Bhaiyaa has a point. The interwebz, technology, society in general is very different now than it was 5, 6, 7…10 years ago. As time and social media platforms have changed, so has the mahol on GS. It’s a natural, organic progression. Heck, this place is completely different now than it was when I first discovered it in 2007 (yes, I had a different nick then :snooty:)

With the popularity and evolvement of Facebook and the advent of WhattsApp etc, GS has been impacted for sure, but what can you really do about that? People change, their interests and needs change…they move on..that’s life. As far as attracting new members, I think something will have to change on the technology side, so that’s an Azkar Bhai issue I guess.

I would like to touch base on some of the observations in this thread about the bullying/ganging up on others/cliques on GS…I’ve been around on GS long enough now to know that is no where near a new phenomenon. This is something that is inevitable and will happen in any social environment. I agree with el topo…people need to lighten up. The whole “us vs them” mentality and constant picking on eachother for being too pakistani or not pakistani enough…fob vs abcd…conservative vs liberal…is that really anything new? From what I understand, it’s been happening here for a long, long time. Does anyone here really think that will ever change?

There is not one single one of us who has not in some way participated in the “gang ups” mentioned here. And what a lot of people, especially newbies, fail to realize is that a lot of times there is history of repeated behaviors and reputations that lead to people having enough of a certain persons postings/antics/threads/blogs. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, just that it’s not always black or white as it seems.

As much as people are complaining about the elitist attitudes and making fun of people for their English etc…meh…the same can be said for all the bashing the other side gets for not having the same command of the urdu language, or differing priorities or cultural adaptations. It’s a two way street.

There was a poster above who hit the nail on the head…when you post on an public forum such as this, you make yourself open to the good and the bad.

And about making friendships and not letting new people “in”…I don’t know what can be done about that either. My friendships and bonds that have been made on GS happened on their own over a period time, as a natural progression. It’s not fair to call out senior members or old time guppies/guppans as being unfriendly, that just sounds bizarre to me.

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

:omg:

tum bilkul paagal ho…but I love it

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

make the site more mobile friendly. I can not see the polls, attachments, likes, etc from my cell phone. Oh and adding pictures is impossible too.

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

I would sell it to someone else who would then have to answer this tough question.

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

Update the app.

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

Make it possible to download all of the personal posts in one file with dates/times and thread names. Yes technical thing. Sorry. :frowning:

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

link as a proof?

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

Why on earth is the box on the right named Quickie?

Re: If you were the owner of GS, what would you do …

I’m glad to see you in agreement with this. Such stupid looking imperial arrogance needs to be dimissed. I have never seen anyone being ridiculed by a group for not writing in perfect Urdu or not writing in Urdu to begin with. If someone doesn’t live in an English speaking country and English is not even their third language, why would you expect them to have perfect grasp of the language? Either you ignore their thread or reply, in case you’ve managed to make sense of the message. No need to give catty lectures. Posters should feel free and welcome to post in Urdu. No type of ridiculing or bullying must be allowed, whatsoever.

Secondly, I have seen the trend of quite regular posters getting banned, because they were either brave or stupid enough to piss off a female mod or someone. The sad thing is, those posters would normally make contribution in every section of this website, but suddenly you’d see ban next to their names because certain mod’s ego got too big for its head and eventually exploded. I understand the need to maintain harmony and peace, but if you want this site to remain alive and kicking, you need to stop banning regular and quite proflic posters just because some mod had a problem with them. The owners needs to put things in prespective and come up with better ways to diffuse tensions between posters instead of driving them away completely.

If I had any power to press the ban button, I would love to banish dozens of posters from Pakistan Affairs, (oh yes, absolutely) but even I know how stupid this idea is, because if I ban those regular posters, who’s gonna post there? Whether I like their views or not, those posters keep that forum alive. I secretly appreciate them for posting on that forum.
