ICC vows steps against Sledging

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

That looks like a very expensive camera, Kami, make sure you don’t drop it. :halo:

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

While Pakistani players look so stupid when they receive sledges with smiles, Indians players, on the other hand, look simply idiotic when they over react. I feel most Indians players just sledge and react for the cameras. Likes of Yuvraj, Kohli, Harbhajan love to channel the hot blooded Punjabi man image on the field to live up to their media hype. Most of the time you can clearly tell they are sledging (swearing) in Punjabi and you know exactly what they're saying. In such cases, I think the opposition has every right to have their words translated. They could be saying something extremely racist for all they know. It's one to mutter things to yourself in your language, but if you are going to look at the player in the eye and call him a sister or mother flower in your own language, then i'm afraid he has every right to take offence and escalate the matter. Not necessarily saying that this is what happened in the last match, but I've seen it happen.

One or two Indian cricketers even try to celebrate like footballers, lol. Well maybe you can try running off the pitch and blow kisses at the crowd like Rolando, but please don't go as far taking your shirt off. You might get in trouble. In fact, if my memory serves me correct, few years ago, one of their players did get in some sort of trouble for taking his shirt off at the Lords balcony and waving it in the air. Oh dear, lol.

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

Waleedee,

Judging by your impressive track record of getting on people’s nerves and starting them off like rocket with your signature one liners, in PA (you know your usual victims). I reckon you’ll make an excellent sledger on field.

Some of your potential sledging gems might include things like:

‘Hah! No ball. lulz](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=lulz) . Go back and try again’

'Oh no, here comes another noora](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=Noora) ’

‘Make sure your water boy brings some #burnol](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=burnol) as well, mate’

And if nothing else works, you just give dharna in the middle of the pitch saying I’m not getting up until Third Umpire walks up to the field, puts my stamps back and says I’m not out.

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

Sounds like Jolie is maahir in sledging.

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

A batsman sledging a bowler or a bowler sledging a batsman is fine in between deliveries or overs as long as it does not cross the line (i.e. no swear words)
However what is not acceptable is wicket-keeper, slip or close-in fielders sledging (batsman) while the bowler is running up to bowl. Try concentrating on batting with men around the bat constantly chattering away or saying nasty things to you as you are about to face the bowler. Sledging can also take the form of frantic or excessive appealing to try and unsettle the batsman such as the Miandad-Kiran More incident during the 1992 World Cup

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

To issue a warning on excessive false appealing or chit chat between fielders whilst the bowler is running is umpires' call. They should use their own judgement to take an immediate action against such things, and the onus to report usually rests on batsman's shoulders, but ICC shouldn't impose any blanket bans on such things. I say this because I still hold the old school view that cricket is mostly a game of nerves, more than half of the game is played mentally. So if you are the type to get easily distracted by chit chat taking place between the slips then you are obviously not good enough to play international cricket. Surely it is part of your world class training to forget everything else around you, and just concentrate on the ball. Of course shouting nasty stuff is a different and a serious issue all together.

I vaguely remember the famous incident when a West Indian player was very obviously trying to go for the slog and Flintoff who was at the slip shouted 'mind the windows, mate', and the next ball he was out. Easy wicket! Now that was a very very clever piece of sledging, if you like. If I were the captain, I would've given a Freddie a pat on the back for mentally unsettling the batsman who was all geared up to hit you all over the park. But I guess that explains why Ricky Ponting is my favourite cricketer.

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

I’m like Tendulkar in many ways, my silence is far more frightening. :snooty:

Innaay.

I’d say we should open up our own sledging academy. Imagine if you get a job as PCB’s sledging consultant. lulz](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=lulz)

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

Tendulkar is silent coz he sounds like a girl.

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

That's alright with me, I'll take that. But really, I'm pretty sure there is some sort of on record consensus amongst all top bowlers of the past that it is suicidal to sledge Tendulkar simply because he won't react at all, he'll remain absolutely silent but he will certainly end up scoring a 100 against you to answer that sledge.

I think it was Tendulkar who once said that when a bowler sledges me, it motivates me even more.

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

That is a champion's temperament..and it is common to all super achievers in sports.. they remain unfazed no matter what the situation

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

Kisko compare kar diya apne sath apne :smack:

Re: ICC vows steps against Sledging

But I like Tendulkar :frowning:
