WASIM'S SHOE SHOP AND SHOAIBS COMMENTS ON THE CT:
AUSTRALIANS CAN BE BEAT!!
'Australians are beatable' - Shoaib
AFP
September 28, 2006
Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has said that world champions Australia are beatable in next month's Champions Trophy as well as in next year's World Cup.
"Australians are beatable and we have beaten them and other sides have come close to wins against them," Akhtar told AFP, while inaugurating his former team-mate Wasim Akram's shoe shop in Karachi. "If Pakistan play up to their potential, yes, we can be one of the sides to beat the Aussies.
"It's an awesome tournament with the world's best teams competing and I feel Pakistan has a good chance to win the trophy. I would love to see a Pakistan-Australia final. Recently in Kuala Lumpur, India came close to beating Australia and if you sustain the pressure from Australia you can beat them."
Akhtar missed the Test series against England due to an ankle injury, but took nine wickets in four one-day internationals against England and bowled, on average, at 90 miles per hour. He said that the Indian pitches would suit Pakistan in the Champions Trophy.
"Pakistan has not won the Champions Trophy yet but this would be a good chance because the pitches and weather would be to our liking but we will have to play the best cricket to win a tournament where other seven teams have equal chance."
Akhtar added that he was looking forward to a showdown with Brett Lee, the Australian fast bowler. Akhtar is regarded as one of the world's fastest bowlers alongside Lee.
"Lee was in fine form in the Malaysia tri-series last week so it would be great fun to be in the opposite side of Lee and it's always an enjoyable duel."
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
Weren't Australia beaten in some last big tournament?
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
The only one I remember is the ASHES....
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
yes they lost to England in the last ICC trophy group game and did not qualify for the later round.
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
Ashes is a series not a tournament.
Aussies have never won the ICC champions trophy. Even with the rich vein of form they have had for the past so many years this one title has eluded them. They'll be very keen to get a Champions trophy under their belt as well.
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
lol bhai.....t o u r n a m e n t naheen heay, what's the big deal, I just sid that is what I could remember...
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
If Pakistan make it to the final (i.e. three group matches ((v qualifier 1, NZ and SZ) + SF)), Inzi will be available to play!
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
even NZ and SLA (assuming they will be qualifier 1) won't be mincemeat. so basically we need to win 2 out of three matches

Pakistan must learn to live without Inzamam: Woolmer
LAHORE: Pakistan’s cricket coach Bob Woolmer Monday urged his young side to learn to live without banned captain Inzamamul Haq at this month’s Champions Trophy. “Obviously losing Inzamam is a big loss, both as a player and as captain, but in a way at some stage Pakistan will have to learn to live without Inzamam,” Woolmer told this agency. “What happened at The Oval and in the last week’s hearing is now behind us. We are now focusing on cricket, with Younis Khan stepping in as captain, and whoever steps in as Inzamam’s replacement has a big challenge,” said Woolmer. “Inzamam is a great leader of players but as I said this young team will, at some stage, have to learn to live without him. Younis will have to show he is equal to the challenge and so is the team.” Woolmer, a former England batsman who also coached South Africa, said the Champions Trophy would be good for Pakistan. “Various teams treat this biennial event in a different way. You have a good chance to assess what other teams are doing six months before the World Cup so it’s a great test,” said Woolmer, referring to the World Cup in the Caribbean next year. “I was there with South Africa when we won the tournament in 1998 and they went on to play the semi-final in the 1999 World Cup. But history shows no ICC Champions Trophy winners have gone on to win the World Cup,” said Woolmer

Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
I wonder if pakistan will make it past the 1st round
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
^Yah Me too.
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
Why do you say that? Apart from Inzi all the other ‘super stars’ will be fit and available.
Re: :.:.:ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY:.:.:
If they play at their potential and work on fielding and more than anything. "stay focussed" they will make it InshAllah.
But like I always suggest, our team needs a good psychologist travelling with us becuase us asians loose our nerves when it comes to taking the heat.
