This is your plan for findng Pakistan a set of solid consistent openers. You try Afridi as opener, he performs, he fails, you drop him, then you bring him back at number 7, he succeeds, you make him an opener or brng him up the order again, he fails, you drop him again. Rinse. Repeat.
Have you been living under a rock for the past 7 years?
Afridi can be ultra successful, and he can fail sometimes. But problem with failing up the order is that it gifts the other team a free wicket, and more often than not instigate a complete batting collapse. I am surprised we are still discussing this.

hafeez failed he got out on 22...afridi in those batting conditions when ball was coming on to the bat nicely would not have done much worse than hafiz..u cant expect afridi to stay at the crease at no 5 when ball is doing a bit

^well chances of that happening were less if he was opening..cause ball was coming on to the bat nicely..here he played and missed a few against murali realized that the ball was not coming on the bat properly got frustrated and got out.

dew is starting to bother srilanka now,this might be a turning point ,with spinners not being able to grip the ball properly batsmen might have an easy time of it

actually he couldn’t read whether Murli bowled an Offspin or a Doosra and that uncertainty led to his demise as he probably thought to hit Jayasuriya out of the park and thus himself out of the misery
