I think I'm going mad, either that or I must be a coconut!

Re: I think I'm going mad, either that or I must be a coconut!

go for it, we hv sooo many trucks near our uni

and they do ma ke a lot of money : )

if i knew it was run by a desi woman..i'd think that she was a strong intelligent woman ..so i think u should b proud..

Well do they? No. So why should people who don't do jack for you get to have such a big say in your life?

Well that's a stunningly childish argument. Right up there with "that's not fair," or "well everybody else is doing it," or "everybody else agrees with me."

I know it's hard, but you (and all of us) have got to stop making our choices based on what others will think (as previous posters have stated). We should worry solely what Allah thinks, make the best decision we can make, and move on with our lives.

Good luck with your business venture.

thats an awesome idea princess, we have a yearly fairground here in the city i live and theres always a few desi food stalls there, let me tell you the queue for these stalls is neverending! brits love asian food lol.
good luck and let us know how you get on :)

Re: I think I'm going mad, either that or I must be a coconut!

You know what, I own many food business, including desi ones...and people give me that attitude all the time...

I know I'm a very wealthy girl alhumdullilah because of it, and it' halaal money, so i say to hell with them!My mom says, All those doctors need to look down on me so they can feel better about the fact that they had to sacrifise their 20s and 30s and work too many hours to make anydecent amount of money, that isn't even that much..

So I say go for it....

Re: I think I'm going mad, either that or I must be a coconut!

um...flawed logic, but yea OP should go for it. it's a good business.

Re: I think I'm going mad, either that or I must be a coconut!

^ I've heard that running a business requires alot of hard work and is very time consuming, at least in the initial years.

considering that not a single person here has argued for what your friend said or did......maybe one conclusion is that she's simply being jealous.

I think you should go for it if you think its a good idea...u never want to be stuck thinking, "what if".....and worse off, who knows if this lady might steal it...never trust people!

Re: I think I'm going mad, either that or I must be a coconut!

A huge thank you to everyone for your support. We've figured (on paper at least!) that the first 36 months would be when any profit made would go straight back into the business, however we'd be able to 'earn a wage' (basic wages that is) almost straight away if I get the marketing right and pan it out before launching.

You are right Sara, initial years in any business start up are the hardest, it's often these times that try families/business partnerships.

Ruqi, thank you for the words of wisdom-although granted doctors wages are 'capped' I have a feeling that they do earn a fair wage. I'm not saying professions would look down on myself for being a catering provider, I was referring to what within the desi community is seen as 'respectable' career wise.

Mistral-I agree I need to stop letting others opinions actually influence my decisions in life. I think it's drummed into a lot of us to listen to every opinion going. Must-fight-it!

Thank you again everyone!
