My friend MIL had the same experience twice (not helicopter but airplane) once when she was visiting Pakistan the airplane just dropped so low that she thought that her time was up, she nearly hit the top on her seat.
Second time was a year later while she was returning home from Pakistan, imaging to experience the situitation twice must have scared the life out of her. (seems like she will have a long life).

Yesterday while I was traveling in a helicopter which crashed in the sea. That was closest call yet.
The main rotor failed and the chopper started going down from 1500 ft. Thanks God all the choppers we use have a safety future of inflatable skids which inflates when comes in contact with water. The good thing is the pilot was able to bring it down straight instead of at an angle, the CG was good and the chopper safely balanced on the skids. We were picked up by the Iranian coast gaurd within 1 hour and now today I am back home after 5 days.
Well just another day at work.

LB! Thanks God you are OK. And nice to know someone else is from the oil patch. I have done these traveling a bit too many times as well.
