Most of them look like average people because that's the only way they'll blend in. They don't really need a 250lb Super-Soldier when the work can be done by a 5'9" geek. The Intelligence agencies actively select people based on a balance of skill and physical appearance. Although about fitness, not necessarily; that depends on your cover. Some people might be fit but others not so.
Yeah I knew an ex CIA agent who was the fattest man I ever knew cant name him becuase he would be in a lot of trouble but he famously took out some real players in his time.... I am often suprised by the way war is waged these days... give me a horse and lance anyday.
My dear such implications can be very hazardous to ones health....and life :p
Those of you who do want the job is it because you assume you will be James Bond, killing people, saving the world and banging hot chicks? Or is it patriotism, nationalistic identity or a moral obligation? Additionally how would you feel about lying to your family for the rest of your job and putting them in harms way indirectly?

Haha Field work is rarely like the James Bond films. Most of the times you're just an observer.

Thanks for the reality check.
The only reason I would ever be a spy, as i've already said is as a last resort. Even then I would see it as dishonest and dirty work, but for a higher cause such as a nations survival or the last hurrah of a good cause why not?
So it would be a moral obligation.
Seriously though it's much better to a have a noble and overt modus ope*****. Few spies were ever heroes ussually they are feared and mistrusted by friend and foe alike. Besides I know so many cases of top spies who went cuckoo and joined the enemy or did worse and took out thier skills on innocent people.
And I think 90% of spy work is monotonous and boring to be honest forget James Bond it is more like being a caged bird.

Precisley people think becuase they are awesome at call of duty they would make ace snipers.
Trust me when your dropped off on a lonely mountain peak with a gun and told to wait for possible action that may never take place then you know how dull it can be... just sat on a lonely cold mountain top, with not even any radio or company. It could be days before your relieved and theres no garuntee the enemy will be where you are anyway... :p
This reminds me of Call of Duty. The British Intelligence was/is actively poaching youngsters with high scores for possible recruitment down the line. Fact.
Now Faris that is why I love America's Army. It is far superior than Call of Duty when it comes to actual war type scenerios, with recoil of different guns the importance of breathing during sniper training etc. Though Call of Duty game play is awesome.
GDIASA - That is what I am calling you from now on. :D Steve Carell is great, but hey even he gets the hot chick. :D However there are a few different type of intelligence operatives. There are the analysts who are the geeks and the field agents. These are the guys who work in Embassies and conduct the top level over view of the actual operations. Then there are the actual operatives on the ground who do in fact get their hands dirty.
After all who turned the warlords in favour of the US in Afghanistan? The CIA. This included diplomacy and targeted killings.

If you're really interested in learning to shoot, join a club ;) Its an amazing experience and definitely teaches you a lot.
Well ofcourse like I said, most Intelligence employees will only be 'white collar' but ofcourse some will see 'action'. Just throwing the odds out there.

Yeah depends on the cover I guess. I was basically talking about those who carry out recon missions in dangerous territory. My uncle for example had his cover blown while in Indian Kashmir and had to run 40km over the border to save himself. Although he was also a SSG commando before joining the ISI so they have good fitness anyway.
