I liked what KArisma wore on her wedding...It wasn't traditional red but not very dull and light either...I'll try to find some nice photo of hers

Re: I need some different colors!
Karishma's wedding gown is pink. And a new pink at that. You should consider that color if you like pink.. :)
Re: I need some different colors!
Oh yes, I just remembered seeing Meera Ansari’s bridal dress too and totally liking it. As far as I remember, her top was orange and lehnga was emerald green.

Re: I need some different colors!
recently i saw a bride who was wearing a baby pink a really light shade of pink sharara on her wedding day ...she was looking nice but wasnt looking like a barat day dulhan and her makeup was also so light wiv nude lipstick that only appeared to be in pics how ever i asked her to tell the beautician that its ur barat day not the valima day so give her a heavier look anyways i my self wanted to have a contrast color sharara for my self but they r mostly made on order n as i had so lil time coz they were taking around atleast 3 months so i finally decided to take a not so red chamkta hua n its more towards maroon sharara sighss
Re: I need some different colors!
so plz wat ever u decide have a lil shade of red or a darker pink in ur dress thatz my theory :D or have a darker shade of any color on ur barat day
Re: I need some different colors!
^ I agree. You don't have to go with the traditional red but you should look like a bride. And brides are bold! People should remember you for the right reasons --- not because you 'didn't' look like a bride on your wedding day..!
maybe ill post pics later. i agree about the bold outfits....every non-desi i know LOVES our bold outfits, heavy jewellery and heavy dramatic makeup...
sorry girls, its 5:24am and i’ve been up for a while and etc. etc., so pardon if this comes across harsh, but i have to say it-
bold doesn’t always suit everyone- you should wear what suits your personality. i’m sure i would have looked overwhelmed and uncomfortable in a dark color on my wedding day- its just not me. i like one red thing (my mom’s heirloom sari that i wore on my first anniversary), i don’t own anything pink, and i couldn’t imagine wearing maroon at my 5:30pm wedding at time of the year when the sun sets at 9.
it really irks me when people go on and on about these “rules and regulations” on being a bride. like when otherwise outgoing, confident girls, sit mute up on stage because they’re meant to be a “shy dulhan”. ridiculous! be who you are and most especially on your wedding day-- its one of the biggest days of your life!!
similarly, i really don’t think a bride wearing a light color is any less “bridal” than one in flaming red ![]()
and frankly, if people are saying you didn’t look like a bride on your wedding day because your makeup was light or your outfit was pale, i’d say there’s more cattiness to that comment than anything else- remember, everyone’s opinion of how they want to look on their wedding day is different- just cos it doesn’t match yours, doesn’t mean she doesn’t look bridal, and also, thats a really mean thing to say! someone told a friend of mine, on her wedding day no less, that she looked like a “pheeki dulhan” because she had on one set instead of 5. and regardless that the person in question was a random nosy neighbour, that comment still hurt her! is that something you’d like to hear if you chose light for your day? of course not!
it was just downright biatchy.
so i think if you want to wear red/pink/maroon/burgundy because it suits you and you love it, then go for it! but if you’re being forced to wear those colours because people are imposing it on you because its traditional even if you don’t like it, then wtf? why would you agree to that??
i’m sure everyone here remembers silsila’s pics- she looked as bridal on her wedding day as sumorani did on hers and no one can say otherwise. there was no mistaking either of the girls as the brides in the room, or denying that they looked really beautiful.
as for non-desi opinions, i don’t get it. you’re seriously going to pick your wedding dress colors so the non desi’s who see you/your pics can admire you? how does their opinion of our weddings make bold colors a “better” choice for a bride? ![]()
</get off soapbox>
^ Thank yew!
Sumone posted a very pretty tea-pink Rouge lehnga here once.. where the bride's posture wasn't fab and she appeared "pregnant" she was gorgeous and so was the dress! I've seen that dress in a dove-grey and it was equally pretty!
Re: I need some different colors!
Whoa there SGC! pets you affectionally It's okay :p It's gonna be alright :p
(I do love ya loads :D)
i wore a light color on my valeema too. and i dont know why what i said is being read to imply that i chose my dress so non-desis could admire it ...weird. Since most non-desis are used to lighter colors and light makeup for weddings they do LOVE the bold makeup and outfits. they are fascinated by the traditional desi wedding outfits. if what i said is still offensive then i dont know... i guess u can take it as a humble opinion and preference (and everyone has opinions and preferences).
Re: I need some different colors!
haha YP :P
shweet, no it wasn't offensive at all but i think non desi's appreciate the overall culture, the jewellery, the clothing, and the bride, as a whole, regardless of what color she's wearing, bold or not.
Re: I need some different colors!
You know what SGC???
Im right there with ya! I adore all colors and even had an argument (play fight) with my sis about it last night. She wants me to wear RED, tomato red. I want to wear a very pretty deep pink with crystals...still looking for the outfit though.
I saw some GORGEOUS pictures of brides wearing amazing colors. One of them was here, it was a really pretty beige/nude color. I still remember it. It had long sleeves and it looked like it was covered with crystals and kaam. I THINK it was a lehenga too - bottom was red. She looked like a bride...no less because she was not wearing fiery red. SOOO elegant! Who wants to be an overdone bride wearing all the jewelry she owns? That is something Im SO against. I simply look at all the jewely my mom wants me to wear and I get nervous.
I want flawless makeup, one set of jewelry, my dupatta set right and an amazing outfit.
On my valima, Im thinking of wearing lavendar...what do you guys think? Or even a forest green with silver kaam?
Re: I need some different colors!
lavender not always comes out with good make-up...
try forest green... you've got loads of options for the Valima, where as for the Barat i'd say wear sumthin in darker colour..

that pink dress is an ayesha khadeeja dress- i’ve seen it in pale blue as well on their facebook group, which is also very pretty.
psquared, i think its this champagne/red bunto outfit you’re talking about- the one zigs is getting for her sis in law…
this is another bunto version of the above outfit i believe
![]()
i love the colors in these two as well- i think if you did platinum with forest green accents (like piping on the edge and maybe just little hits of forest green swarovski’s in a sea of silver/platinum thread work and crystal kaam), instead of the reverse, it would look really pretty too! i find silver/platinum looks really good on desi skin tones
