in pakistan, although, it was a baraan-e-zehmat 
with the first drop, the lights went out, and then there were these long episodes of dark nights, mosquitoes, searching for candles etc etc.
And by early morning when everyone was half dead, suddenly there would be this welcome sound of FANS turning on 
and there would be shouts of joy all over the mohalla - and then people would catch a few hours of sleep
