the deal with posting the lyrics is that there is still some chance that I will actually record them, Nadeem Jaffery has always encouraged me to do so but there are factors that keep me from it. If I do record a song it may bring distress to some people very close to me since the conservative atmosphere that they are in now considers is bad and cheap etc. So kinda backed off due to requests of some elders.
They maintain that for me to sing in gathering and shows is fine, but to make it any more...public..will just create stress for others.
Dunno..the decision to back off was tough at the time, now I dont think about it much but this thread kinda brought it all out.
Fraud Yar, that is very considerate of you. Man, I wish I had that in me. But the refinement and elegance lie in finding a balance. You can still write provocative songs, while making sure that you don’t jump the fence. It is a shame that how many talented people give up their dreams just to please some old relatives. The way I deal with it is to tell them that whatever I am is a product of their influence on my life. The trick usually works, but now they are getting smarter.

if you heard about the guy who sang at the India day show in philly in 1994 while wearing a Union Jack T-shirt ahah that was me.
Now I am reduced to singing at family weddings and mehndis plus when the elders are in the mood of a song or something.
I dont know if I would have been good enough on a bigger stage. the music was great with a mix of east and west, kinda like Alan Faqir meets The Cure and steal some stuff from Depeche Mode and The Stone Roses, but I never did the music part, just lyrics and vocals.
