For example: Someone is stressed out in prison because he had an accident, he can ask to be released in du’a to Allah (SWT) directly, but there was a deeper wisdom in the du’a or recitation of Yunus (AS) where this was being recited:

"Hasbunallahu wa ni`mal Wakil’’ [Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us).]‘’ (3:173).

Most people would miss this … Yunus (AS) didn’t put his hands up and say “O Allah keep me alive in the belly of this fish and get me out of here quickly. Ameen” NO … He (AS) did it beautifully. That in his heart he was upset and wanted to get out, but in his du’a he (AS) was full of respect and trust with Allah (SWT)
When we are in need it is the best time to seek from Allah (SWT) because it is sincere … but if we do so with wisdom and full trust to Allah (SWT) then it will be better for us … Du’a should not be selfish . Those du’as of the pious predecessors are ibadat as well as supplications … they are cleverly formulated that Praises of Allah (SWT) are inherent in them … When people ask for du’as they are asking for the best techniques, the words uttered by those who Allah (SWT) Loves and if we emulate them then it could be Love can fall on us too.

Brother if I’m not wrong the dua of Hazrat Younus AS was

La Illa Ilaanat Subhanak Inni Kunt Minal Zalmeen..
