Well, having had this for over 20 years…I can promise you its not a big deal. As for transmitting it…my parents and both sisters do not have this and I lived with them until I was 22. I’ve been with my husband for several years and he doesn’t have this either (or at least he’s never gotten a sore). I can feel when a sore is about to form around my mouth and when that happens, I just make sure I don’t kiss my husband and we don’t share glasses/utentiils/towels etc. until the sore is gone. I use a cream called Abreva and the sore goes away within a few days. After its gone, I wash my towels/pillow case etc. and get a new toothbrush lol.
You should worry more about catching the flu b/c that leads to more health complications than this! HSV1 is annoying and embarrassing if the sore is big enough…but there’s nothing dangerous about it. It doesn’t cause any actual harm.
