Husbands/Wife's right to know

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

the wife should tell the husband about the STD..the doc can't reveal any info about the patient....cuz if he does, as someone said above, he'll be sued from either side

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

All of you have commented maturely. I dont see that in view of any comment, the problem stands resolved. The doc, the patient and the unsuspecting hubby are in potential trouble.
Like most of you, I think that the patient should take the responsibility of her action and speak up, saving the life of the one who hasnt any role in it. If its a dangerous disease, she should do that.

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

The decision of the doctor 'to tell' or 'not to tell' is not primarily concerned with the character or sexual behavior of the woman. She might have contracted the disease without any 'sexual contact', or might have had multiple sexual partners. In the ordinary circumstances, it's none of doctor's business. The question is: Is he going to warn a person about the danger of contracting (probably) an untreatable disease, or trust his wife to tell him the truth? Can she be trusted to tell the truth? I've described above what I perceived as morally correct behavior. The advice for the doctor: Do what you think is the ethically right thing to do. Just don't find yourself on the wrong side of the law later. It's a selfish world.

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

Author of this thread is requested to please describe what sort of STD she is infected with? Please.

Re: Husbands/Wife’s right to know

I thought doctors are obliged to disclose all kinda of information’s of their patients to their spouses if the patient is suffering from some incurable/dangerous (and/or long term) disease :konfused:
howcome husband isn’t infected yet?

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

^ No, I don't think so. My mother's doctor refused to speak to me on the phone. She wanted to only speak to my mom. (It wasn't an STD case, and I already knew what it was about, but even so, mom's doc didn't care). Its the patient's decision whether to involve the family. Why should the doctor get sued or be put into a bad position because some lady fooled around and cheated on her husband. If I were the doctor, I'd refuse to talk to anyone other than the patient. Let the patient deal with the consequences of their behavior. Why should the doctor suffer through the ordeal?

Re: Husbands/Wife’s right to know

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

umm if u have STD won't it be passed on to ur spouse when havin sex?..if yes then tha doc shud tell him, unless we want another person wit STD, just cuz tha woman doesn't want tha fact to be known that she herself has STD

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

Blackforest, if he tells the husband, he can get sued by the wife for invading her personal privacy. And the wifey can hire any good lawyer to take the doctor to hell and back for something like that.

Why should a doctor suffer for a couple's marriage that is problematic. Too bad for that couple - they need to sort things out for themselves.

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

what a biatch

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

Here the husbands health is not in danger. The STD has been treated and the wife will not transmot it to husband.

Its only that this family knows the doctor and the husband might ask him of what she was having. He ofcourse will say he cannot disclose this info. This by all practical purposes will make the husband extremely suspicious and probably result in end of the marriage.

However, what i am saying is not what the doc shud do, he knows his ethico-legal position and has reacted appropriately. The question is for society

Do people have right to know if their spouse is cheating upon them?

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

Icono, the doc has already breached the trust. The fact that you know it confirms it. The other part of the peoblem i.e., do spouses have the right to know requires to be debated. IMHO, spouses should know and suffer through the pain onwards to live again.

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know

yes they do even if it means divorce

Re: Husbands/Wife's right to know
