Re: Hungarian TV camera operator filmed kicking refugee children
Is it just the Europeans' attitude that needs to be mocked. What about SA, Quatar and rest of them. Europe is doing something atleast while these countries are not even trying to do anything.
Charlie Hebdo is a European paper criticizing Europeans themselves. SA and Qatar in terms of human rights and justice are so far of the radar that I think they are irrelevant within the context of the ongoing refugee crisis. We dont expect much from them. Europe on the other hand holds itself to a higher standard, and so criticism comes hand in hand with the standard they set for themselves.
Re: Hungarian TV camera operator filmed kicking refugee children
^^
Atleast these countries are trying to do something.
While you declare Hungary to be the most Xenophobic, what about Saudi Arabia, Quatar etc. They are Xeno loving I suppose.
The sins of one nation do not absolve another of theirs. Your argument is classic diversion. Dont talk about problem "X" in this country because there is problem "Y" in that (your) country. Its an attempt to dodge criticism over a very real issue, by attacking the credibility of the person making the observation... You try to paint them as being hypocritical and biased, thereby avoiding having to acknowledge the actual problem.
Dude, I really hate this logic. We cant talk about anything in any part of the world, because something worse is happening in Pakistan... And if its not Pakistan then its some other Muslim majority country. You can apply this same logic to any issue anywhere in the world. Lets not talk about Gun violence in America because there is terrorism in Pakistan. Lets not talk about equal rights for women in America because women are forced to wear Burqas in Saudi Arabia.
Just because we mention Hungary doesnt absolve Saudi Arabia. But this thread is about Hungary, not Saudi. And just because SA exists as a country, doesnt mean we can no longer talk about other countries.

Just because somebody lowers their standards does not mean that they are absolved of the blame. In fact there is a need to criticise them more. When somebody is doing something and is not able to cope with the influx, you need to appreciate what has been done.

My response was in reference to the poster defining Hungary as the most Xenophobic country. I was just trying to make him understand reality.
Re: Hungarian TV camera operator filmed kicking refugee children
^ are you trying to defend Hungary?
Nobody is trying to defend what she did. What she did was despicable and needs to be condemned. That said it is a mixture of emotions when you have 1000s of squatters in your backyard.
Re: Hungarian TV camera operator filmed kicking refugee children
yeah…I don’t think it’s harsh at all.
the woman deserves no mercy or leniency and author of that post was offering some to her…my intention was to show that she IS a mother and STILL did what she did.

Criticizing the Saudis is an exercise in futility. One of those horse to water issues.
Europe on the other hand is a different story. First of all, most Europeans if they are taking them in are doing so begrudgingly. Secondly, Europe needs these people as much as they need Europe (European countries have population crisis, which means without importing labor, they cant sustain their population or their economy in the long run).
The intention of the cartoon is to highlight that negative attitude among Europeans towards these refugees... Its not to say that they ARENT taking them in. Its that they do so half hardheartedly and with a degree of cynicism.

This is exactly what I am trying to understand. If Europe can survive without the influx of refugees for hundreds of years, they can very well survive without them for the foreseeable future. It is sad that the omissions of the Saudi regime is being brushed under the carpet while people who are helping these refugees are criticized.
Most these refugees are economic immigrants and are not to be classified as refugees. I have followed your posts for quite sometime (even before I joined gupshup officially) and have felt that you look at both sides of the argument before you post your thoughts. I am missing that here.
Just answer a simple question. As a human being will you allow hundreds of squatters to come and reside in your backyard. However big your backyard is, I am sure you would want your children to inherit the backyard. Charity begins at home and not somewhere else. It is easy to criticize someone else. How do you think that these refugees are being looked after now. It is from the money that the tax paying public have paid. These people have issues with the money being spent on outsiders.
Re: Hungarian TV camera operator filmed kicking refugee children
Europe will survive, but will it thrive? I dont know.
Europe survived in the past because they had babies, and those babies had jobs which supported their economies. Now they arent having babies anymore and they need immigrants to fill those positions.
**“Record numbers of economic migrants and asylum-seekers are seeking to enter the European Union this summer and are risking their lives in the attempt. The paradox is that as police and security forces battle to keep them at bay, a demographic crisis is unfolding across the continent. Europe desperately needs more young people to run its health services, populate its rural areas and look after its elderly because, increasingly, its societies are no longer self-sustaining.”
**Europe needs many more babies to avert a population disaster | World news | The Guardian
Saudi and UAE have been criticized, but how long can you shout when no one over there is listening? Japan BTW is also not accepting any of these refugees, and the US (which has had a hand in creating the turmoil in the ME, isn’t taking in nearly as many people as it should).
Europe should be commended for taking in so many people, but this charity they are providing does come with some caveats as well. Charity done begrudgingly is’nt exactly charity.
As a human being, of course I don’t want squatters, and I understand their misgivings. However, as a human being, I know that in extraordinary circumstances we all have to make compromises.
And I dont think they will be squatters. If the EU plays its cards right, these people can be an asset.
Europeans themselves have been forced to become squatters in the past. And as I mentioned, the people who are squatters may be the saviors of the European economy in the near future. While refugees and immigrants are expensive in the short term, they are a economic boon in the long term for a continent which needs labor.

How about asking Western governments that instead of cosying up to Saudis, feeding them arms worth billions to use it on the region, they 'criticize' Saudi and put pressure on them to accept refugees?
US can wreck country after country and kill thousands and thousands and displace millions in the name of democracy, but she is unable to out any pressure on Saudi in the name of democracy and Human Rights?
The sick joke to put Saudi Arabia on UN Human Rights panel wasn't pulled by Muslim countries. The secret instructions asking BBC to go easy on 'criticism' on Saudi wasn't given by Muslims. Muslims are the biggest victims of Saudi Arabia's double dealing and cold hardheartedness, since the regime is protected by powerful Western government, the whole debate that it's the Muslims that don't criticize Saudi enough is getting old.
Re: Hungarian TV camera operator filmed kicking refugee children

Still blame the west for all that is wrong. Why does'nt somebody from the Islamic world take leadership and do what is right. It is just pathetic that people sitting in the west and enjoying all the benefits of the country not missing an opportunity to badmouth the west. For all its ills the west is atleast trying to do something for the refugees while most of the Islamic countries are acting as if nothing is wrong.
