Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
Loads of scented fresh rose petals. Loooooovely!
Bubbles sound good, but take a lot of effort.
Certainly wouldnt do party spray / snow spray / silly string, bcos it ruins clothes and would make a lot of ppl angry.
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
U can also throw table confetti as well, those small star and heart shaped silver and gold things.
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
We threw flower petals, and put mithai in the baarat's mouth's as they entered, but rather than use out fingers we'd cut small pieces of mithai and put it on toothpicks. All the girls also held tray's with little tea lights on them - but that was more for the camera, it looked pretty.
When we've been prviously we've also been sprinkled with itaar.
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
We've put candles in the middle and petals around it. It's pretty and practical.
^ I've also seen girls put glitter on the guests..( just ladies)

at my cousins wedding i was a part of the baraat and the girls side had rose petals in their bowls soaked in water..a lot of water..nd they threw these dripping wet rose petals at our faces.. i was so angry

Wow thats so mean and obnoxios! Why on the earth did they do that and how come no one had the sense to stop them??
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
I like the bubble idea in addition to the ladies holding some small try decorated with flower petals/candles/glitter...etc...or diya. You can have the little girls in a row up front blowing bubbles or using mini bubble makers...lots of american weddings use the white bell or cake shaped bubble bottles...looks very nice.
Another idea I have seen that I liked is the girl's side, each of the gals had a single long stemmed rose....and handed them to the main baraat people (MIL, FIL, SIL/BIL/relatives...etc)....
and another wedding the receivers of the baraat had those sparkler sticks....and lit them as the baraat was entering...so the guys held the sparkler sticks as baraat entered....and further in the line, the girls threw the rose petals...came out very nice in the movie
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
how about offering small bite-sized laddoo's on a silver tray as people enter? something to "meetha" their "moun" as they walk in to start the celebrating? its only polite, right, like we offer people food/drink when they come to our homes and thats on a much smaller scale.
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
^ Ya but have mini chocolates on the tray as well as ladoos make some people barf :CareBear:
You can also have those flower bracelets I forget what they are called now, and tie one to the wrist of every girl as she comes and pin a rose to every guy's shirt
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
just wondering................Does any one else have this custom, when the baraat arrives the brides sister(s) be waiting outside with milk(once all the petals are thrown) for the groom and his best mate and he has too drink it all up then, fill it back up wid loads of money :D
and also some people add chilli powder to the milk, lol
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
i like this "mouh metha wala" idea in addition to rose petal..
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
that just looks really funny! lol
i don't know if i'd do that... it reminds me of when a military officer gets married and walks under the arch of his company's swords/rifles.
Re: How to welcome the Baraat?
i got married last month, we didnt throw flowers at anyone instead we gave flower bracelets to all the women as they entered. (but that was also because everyone forgot the rose petals in my room). however, it looked much better than throwing petals on people, i just dont like that much. the guys side did the same thing on the valima.
i went to a wedding where the sisters of the brides stopped the groom at the door and wouldnt let him enter till he gave them money.
