But at the same time I must admit that “conjecture” is used in English in the negative sense. Ignorance on my part now that I have consulted a dictionary.

So, perhaps The Scholars of subjective opinion would be better.

It is a slur because the Hanafi rulings were not based on subjective opinion or guess work … they were derived using deductive mechanisms - logical practice and harmonising techniques to calibrate their rulings in line with a bigger picture. This practice was “considered” to be too much intelligent intervention by SOME people who were not versed in such techniques and the counter slur for them is to call them literalists, zahiris or anthropomorphists etc … not all of the members of the other madhabs would level this claim against the Hanafis and for sure those that still level this claim have a problem accepting Hanafis for emotional reasons rather than dogmatic ones.

If you want to call the Hanafis something other than simply Hanafis - then choose the word Ahl-ul-Qiyas rather than Ahl–ul-Ra’y. In fact analogical reasoning is the basis of ijtihad which is why my claim that Hanafis are an established school in this respect is because they traditionally gave most importance to making the whole doctrine balance out - Imam Abu Hanifah was accused of being a rationalist and although rational thought is used it is not the premise for Hanafi fiqh like it is for Mu’tazili belief. It is merely used to argue between two valid opinions in order to derive the better one using another benchmark. The primary source for all Sunni schools is scripture. Naql precedes and then 'aql follows - where required. Arguably as I said earlier Hanafis led this mechanism historically and it is almost unavoidable now in the modern day - all schools use Qiyas.

No, I don’t choose the words. The scholars do and this is what they are and will be called Ahl Al-Ray’ since this is what all scholars have called them. If you don’t like it so be it

Well I know how sunnis pray witr, three rakahs, with dua qunoot in the third one. However Arabs pray it differently, according to one of my friends there is a hadith that witr should be different to the farz during maghrib. The Ahl e hadith/wahhabis usually pray two rakahs and then a separate one rakah with any dua (not qunoot). So what is the correct way of performing witr?

As long as you’re praying, it doesn’t matter. Allah knows what is in your heart and he is the one who will judge your deeds. I’ve prayed behind a shia imam in a imam bara as well as behind barelvi and deobandi imams. With my intention to pray for Allah.
