Re: How to pray witr?
I personally find the non-Hanafi fiqh of Salat very confusing and it’s not because of unfamiliarity. I am familiar with the prayers as I pray behind them. Eid is very interesting and Witr - The Shafis will do their “Qunoot” which is only a short part of the du’a AFTER rukooh. And they will do a du’a standing up and lift their hands. They will do the du’a in their own tongue - i.e. they are not forming any ritual words - but much like a khutbah they will stylise their du’a I their own tongue. Just imagine if Pakistani Shaf’is would start doing a du’a in the middle of prayer in their own Urdu or Punjabi, etc tongue? That I find confusing. Also … they have this tendency to join prayers before time - like Maghrib and Isha … and they will happily pray their 'Isha prayers behind an Imam doing Maghrib. And they will tap you on the shoulder when you are praying your Sunnah expecting you to continue praying as if you are leading them … Or if you stand back up having joined the jamat missing a rakat they will tap your shoulder and join in and potentially a chain of people can extend one jammat so long another person keeps joining after at least one rakah is missed.
Ignorance does that. Perhaps had you invested time in studying their evidences, which are in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) may I add, your confusion would go away!
