Re: How to organise your wedding shopping guide book
like amelie said, it really all depends on where you live and how social you are. probably the girls living in pakistan/india who get so many do so because their families are large and events are plentiful and they'll actually wear them. for me, my folks gave me two saris and two shalwar kameezes... i married into a gora family and i dont have that many pakistani relatives here and so i've really only worn one sari to one eid, and the second jora to the other. and the remaining two i'll probably wear over the course of this next year. it turned out to be perfect because when i need something more, which will probably be next year lol i can get it made then or i can ask mom and dad to send it to me from dubai.
having said that, we're not social losers who don't go anywhere hahaha :p its just that in our family/friends circle, shalwar kameezes/saris are novelty items you pull out for special occasions like eid and weddings, so the four i got was a perfect amount :)
on the other hand, my friend here who married into this very large pakistani family got tons of joray from both sides and i promise you, she has worn every single one multiple times by now, including her shaadi ka jora, because her inlaws family is MA so huge that she has an event almost every weekend and then throughout the week too! so it depends on your situation.
but like someone here said, saris are always great. they dont go out of style and my mom has banarsi saris from her time that the kaam hasn't even faded or tarnished on! definitely a good investment. its also nice to just get pieces and then get them stitched as and when you like.

If u're tall, a hyderabadi jora looks stunning! Peshwas isn't really nice :S I hope all guppy's find nice MIL's, so they take their soon-to-be-bahu's shopping with them! Even though my soon-to-be MIL has great taste, I'd still be comfy tagging along and seeing the outfit...
