How to break it off nicely

What's wrong with obedience? It's a great quality. It shows modesty and flexible attitude to make a relationship work. Also, if one is not physically attractive to someone, how he's gonna spend rest of his life with her? It effects the relationship, and make things worst for both of them.

I think what you're trying to say is that there should be a good balance in things that matter worldly and emotionally in choosing a partner.

But then the question is, what's that level of good balance?

That's all fine and dandy .... as long as it is HIS request and not that of his parents. Same can be applied to pushy parents of a girl who want a guy to satisfy THEIR demands and requirements rather than looking at what is compatible with their daughter.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with obedience. There are other very important qualities too that are often overlooked since social status comes into play which changes priorities from looking at how a person's character is to what their position in life is and how much money they make .... and whether they can be showed off at desi parties.

Too add my 2 cents to the discussion. Parents dont know their kids as well as they think they do. I hate to say it, but its true, as much as our parents say they love us and they want the best for us, they do what's best for them. Its almost like we owe them something and maybe we do, but I think we owe them respect not our lives. Pride and greed often get mixed into the equation when looking for a suitable match. In the end, all we have is ourselves, we can blame our parents, because yes they did nag us to death, but in the end the decision was ours....because we agreed with them. As smart as we are, we should really follow our own paths, so in the end anything that happens is our own doing, and we have no one to point the finger at but ourselves.

I'm glad to see that I've started off a good discussion here on the topic at hand.

sweetpie, see everything was going handy and dandy until you opened your mouth. You should stay away from your own threads.

Roman, put a sock in it!
