I say it to my Mr and children everyday.
When i’m on the phone and i’m ending the conversation, it doesn’t matter who i’m speaking to…it could be a friend, my sister, brother, mother, nieces, nephews, in-laws etc etc… i always say “love you…byeeeeeeeee!” you never know when you will speak to them again…but anyway, the men will always reply with “hmm, yeah, bye.” 
In person, when i say “love you, byeeeeeee” (whilst leaving), i get a mukka on the arm or headlocked if i say it to my brother, nephews or BIL.
Girls are so much more receptive.

I used to say it a lot, even to the people I met for the first time outside girl's college or bus stop .. but I realized soon that its not worth it.

I only occaiosnally say it to my mum or sisters, sisters a bit more. And i say it to my husband when i feel a lot of affection for him(quite often lol) but i try not to say it ALL the time cos i feel it loses its value a little that way.
