Re: How many Taraweeh do we have to pray?
Ahalay Sunnah Offer 20 rakhats ! it is not a wahabis practice.
First and the foremost let me take you all through a series of events leading to the taraweeh prayer
Accordign to the sources Ayesha said that Prophet performed only 8 rakah of taraweeh and 3 witr i.e. a total of 11
Umar ra during his reign made it compulsory by making it 20 rakah in congregation and also made a point to recite so many verses in one day so as to see to taht the Quran could be recited twice in one ramadan.
Ali ra complimented Umar ra for this purpose.
Abu Hanifa made a point that 20 rakah should be prayed and the hikmah again was 20 verses in each rakah 200 each day and odd and since Quran contains 6000 verses and odd thats makes it to recite Quran once per ramadan
Malikis offer upto 36 rakah and there is no denial in it.
But let us see what Prophet had to comment its completely wrong to say taht only 20 is allowed/8 is allowed/36 is allowed and calling it bidah.
Firstly we have to understand Taraweeh is a prayer which is a sunnah and during the day of Judgement Allaah wont Question us regarding this but yes our deeds/points will increase if we perform Taraweeh in this blessed month.
Second Prophet has told us perfomr the prayers esp Qiyaam al layl/taraweh in units of two i.e. 2 rakah each so its left upto an individual to perform how many every prayers s/he wants to and understand there is no upper limit to this you can pray how much ever you want.
Accordign to me no individual in this regard has right to comment on any individual when Prophet has decreed no matter come what may.
