Re: How do you get rotis round and soft?
Its somewhere problem in kneading. Knead it into a smooth dough and dont make it very hard. Sometimes when dough is not smooth it may have some lumps in it that also crack the roti
Re: How do you get rotis round and soft?
Thank you. Will try kneading it smoother..
Re: How do you get rotis round and soft?
I don't know why after 8 years of R&D since this thread was opened, no one has come up with a simple, yet elegant solution.
Just make the roti approximately circular. Use a circular ring. The ring dimensions shall be as follows:
Height > 2X of desired roti thickness.
inner diameter Di = desired roti diameter
Outer diameter Do : Do - Di > 2mm ( to ensure edge of roti is smooth)
Ring material - preferably SS.
Procedure:
Make roti best you can. Press ring on roti with pressure in the 2 to 5 psi range. Scrape off excess. Mix excess with dough. Repeat.
Re: How do you get rotis round and soft?
the first tiem u throw the roti onto the tawa.. as soon as u see edges changing in color, flip over and cook the side completely... sometimes if u dont make that first flip, rotis can go hard ....
Yes I 'cook' the rotis on both sides well and then I don't press themm what I do it take them off the tawa and I put them on a round grill on my electric stove, the rotis ballloon up so fast, but they have to be nicely cooked on the tawa for them to be fluffly.
How do you get rotis round and soft?
I had alot of trouble with making rotis. I looked alot of videos. One tip that made the dough easier to handle and work with is that I add oil the the dough while mixing and once Im done so it doesn't form a skin/crust.
I use a round board also. Definitely would suggest to keep the dough in the fridge. Practice definitely makes perfect but there some key methods in getting it to work .
How do you get rotis round and soft?
Definitely wish I saw this post earlier. Make sure the Tawa is piping hot. I leave mine on the stove for at least 10 minutes prior to making roti. I also cook one side till it forms small bubbles and repeat. Then I cook on open flame.
