Re: =How did you land your First Professional Job?
1st job was an internship thru college career fair. Initially went on interview for the wrong position, but they liked me and sent me on another interview for related field. was about 8 months. Then 2nd job, thru staffing agency, as well as 3rd. I was a temp & got offered full time work in non-technical field. I got foot in the door and then switched kind of into technical field. yah later it was networking.
Yep… at the University of Toronto, we have this thing called the “Professional Experience Year” where employers can hire students for either 12 or 16 months.
It’s different from a traditional semester or 2-semester long co-op/internship because it allows employers to get the students to work on an actual long-term project.
The whole reason why U of T started this was because most co-op employers said it took them 2 months to train the student and by working only 4 - 6 months after training, the projects were often left incomplete… or the experience was not as useful as it could be for both the student and the organization.
Re: =How did you land your First Professional Job?
My first job was in Pakistan, saw a little ad in employment section and faxed resume then got hired after going thru the interview process.
First job in US, I went to the "Open House" held by employer sigh now "Open House" are long gone history.
What’s wrong with that? its pretty common all over the world..
Re: =How did you land your First Professional Job?
first professional job- i had finished an internship during my MBA where the uni had matched me with the company, but had to stop going to uni due to some family finances stuff, so called the guy I was reporting to for my internship to see if the company had any jobs and he hired me.
