Santa Claus is based on St Nicholas but the idea of a fat man bestowing you with gifts is rooted more in the Winter Solstice, i.e. Dec. 25th. Christianity merely adopted this festival to make the transition from paganism to Christian more convenient. Going to church on Sundays is also rooted in paganism. Furthermore, many Christians in the US and England tried to ban Christmas in the late 1800’s because of it’s relative insignificance in Christianity (Easter is supposed to be a more important holiday). Obviously consumerism won that fight.
As for lying to kids, I think a lot of parents do the tooth fairy thing with their kids, and most kids realize that it’s their parents. At least I did. This idea that Santa or the Easter Bunny teaches kids to lie is a bit far fetched. Some people would argue that religion itself is a lie perpetuated by parents.
^ I agree. like I said, fat man in red is commercialism. Not sure if youre adding or saying im wrong. as far as the presents go, st nic was known for that, not just paganism. The paganism comments; yeah I fully agree.
PS: why are white kids so dumb? or is it that their parents’ lie really good. because the BS’ness of santa story is apparent to even a normal sane 4 year old.
No, I didn’t. I’m just saying kids are kids, whatever their colour, and that to say gore kids are somehow more gullible or stupider than other kids just because YOU as an adult find the myth of Santa completely unbelievable, is unfair and racist.
All kids believe in magical stories. It’s part of being a kid.
Dear Aurch I used to believe in mythical and fictional characters too, my point is if you say Santa is not real and your parents are your Santa, it’s fine but small kids usually cry when they find out. I saw lot of kindergartners getting upset on them and then I discussed it with teacher she said its between them and parents, we cannot say anything. Tooth ferries, hobbits, witches, are all different things. But Santa is a big deal for everyone, even for me too, the point is parents should tell kids at first hand it’s not real. That’s my point, I didn’t mean it to be racist or something else I just discussed from kid point of view how sad they get. They don’t get upset on other fictional characters keep in mind. Since may be you know U.S. more than me I agree with you it’s not a big deal when you become an adult.
