Re: houzz.com - my current obsession

ok, here’s how i define them:
modern is a very specific, very minimalist look usually and refers primarily to mid-century modern style.
eg:
Mathews Drive - Living Room Fireplace - modern - living room - austin - by Risinger Homes
The Jones House - Mid Century Modern Remodel

contemporary is a cleaner look vs. traditional, but contemporary is also what is hot right now. and contemporary will continue to change. examples of elements of contemporary design that are trendy, like painted ceilings, moorish tile wallpaper or chevron floors, might not last forever, but that’s ok because in the future someone else will think of some new design element and then it will be contemporary.
eg:
tineke triggs - contemporary - bedroom - san francisco - by Artistic Designs for Living, Tineke Triggs
Bayshore drive - traditional - powder room - orange county - by Patterson Construction Corporation

these days, mid-century is so hot that its the new contemporary, if you will, which is why there is lots of cross-over and a lot of design today is inspired by mid-century principles and so the lines between modern and contemporary are often blurred.

Voluminous ceilings and immense windows were the starting point for a renovation that takes two old apartments to new heights.
