I don't know how popular it is overall but I do know of a couple of people who went to culinary school. One is working towards opening a restaurant and is currently an apprentice chef (I don't know how else to describe the position) at an established restaurant and the other started a high end catering company along with her sister and a friend from uni.

I've always been curious about people who go to culinary school. Other than opening a restaurant or a business, what can one do in that field?

There is but I’m not so sure it would be economically sound for most people to spend £26,000 (approximately $44,000), the average cost of a 3-4 year degree, for that purpose though. :smiley:

If one wanted to be a professional homemaker, I would think cookery lessons would be more economically sound than a degree from a culinary school.

That said, I’m not sure if culinary related degrees are around the same cost as a 3-4 year degree in other fields.

But Home economics is not just about culinary skills, it also covers sewing and other skills.
