MAn I am watching Hockey after such a long time and its disappointing to see how muchh the level of hockey has gone down in Pak....gone are the days when Pakistani Players would be the best field players...miss that amazing talent.
Also surprised that India is ranked # 10 in world and they are only playing this WC because they are the host nation...if they weren't hosting this WC...ranking wise, the wouldnt be in this WC!

India Won...they played the hockey that I used to watch Pak play...Sohail' first 2 Penalty Corner hits that were freaking quick...were mis directed and both hit the cross bars.....third was not stopped properly and sohail didnt even get to sohail....over all India played good hockey...much better than green's and won the game...also shows the discipline that has been installed by hiring a high priced German coach....$$, sure does buy best coachs.

Pakistan are effectively out of the Hockey World Cup. Can't see this team beating Australia or Spain who are two of the leading nations in World Hockey. And if England can beat Australia 3-2, they will believe that they can beat anyone. Pak might just beat South Africa which obviously won't be good enough. Just shows how low our standards have dropped in hockey in recent times

India’s Shivendra, Pakistan’s Irfan suspended
NEW DELHI: India striker Shivendra Singh was on Monday banned for three matches and Pakistan’s Irfan Muhammad for one game for different violations in the men’s field hockey World Cup. Shivendra was handed the suspension by tournament director Ken Read for hitting Pakistan’s Fareed Ahmed above the eye in Sunday’s league clash between the Asian rivals. Read penalised Irfan for wearing an unapproved glove and knee pad to defend the first penalty corner in the same match, a statement from the International Hockey Federation (FIH) said. Shivendra will miss India’s key group B matches against Australia, Spain and England, but will be available for the last game against South Africa. Irfan will sit out of Pakistan’s match against Spain on Tuesday. Shivendra, who scored a goal in India’s emphatic 4-1 win on Monday, was charged under a level 2 offence of FIH’s code of conduct which deals with physical assault without causing serious injury.** Read said he handed the three-match suspension after video replays suggested that Shivendra had hit Fareed deliberately, even though the on-field umpires did not penalise the player during the match.** Pakistan’s Irfan was suspended following manager Asif Bajwa’s admission that the offending glove and knee pad were not taken to the technical committee for approval before the tournament. The 12-nation tournament in the Indian capital ends on March 13

I used to be an avid hockey fan myself in the eighties when we had the dream forward line-up of Samiullah-Hanif Khan-Hassan Sardar-Manzoor Junior-Kalimullah but not anymore. I am not that disappointed because I know our current hockey team is not good enough. But I was still hoping that they w'd do well against India, England and South Africa. After the lack-lustre performance against India I am not so sure. And do not forget Pak have lost nearly 90% of their games against Australia and Spain in recent times.

PAK leading Spain by one goal after the first half in which they had more scoring chances than the opponents.
