I just want to comment shuddhi was not a forcible conversion.It was for those who believe in Aryam Samaj's vedic teachings.Irrespective of our religions,Vedas is the common heritage for all of us pak and india.Vedas have pre RAM,Krishna era and common to all of us who have common ancestors "ARYAN". Shuddhi was done only when person was himself willing because it included reciting and learning tough hymns with yagyas.I don't think that this thing can be forced upon ,unless self desired.
Also shuddhi was limited to urban areas among educated ones ( started in Mumbai,spread to Punjab Lahore,Amritsar) where forcing was not possible( among educated)..
Forcible conversion whether in hindus,islam,christians is condemnable and should be suppressed.****
Shuddhi was primarily targeted towards uneducated, rural groups who had only "partially" converted to Christianity or Islam....not the educated elite. I've posted many sources that will corroborate this fact.
I never claimed that shuddhi was "forced conversion" (though there are historical instances of forced shuddhi too). I was simply pointing out that there is indeed a history of missionary efforts and conversion in Hinduism...a fact that some earlier posters were denying.
