Bottom line is the sizable chunk of LTTE's foreign money is sourced from Hindu temples abroad. No evidence of other religious places being used for the same reason. Most LTTE members and the demographic they represent are Hindus. Aside from the nationalist tone to the conflict, there definitely is a religious overtone to it.
