I would rather save what I have and plan for a hit back at an appropriate time in the future. Get a few faces smiling right now and pay them back in the long term. About short term resistance, we should not be saying "if Iran" but rather "can Iran". So can it?
Just because you oppose the U.S. doesn't mean you should support or back any nutjob who is also against them. It does not serve Pakistan well if their neighbor is an irrational timebomb.
Do you have any clue how many people think the President of NA is a nut job? I'm talking about people within the USA. Take a lot at his ratings pal. Consider the states that voted for him. Certainly not the educated ones.
I would support a nutjob any day rather than convicted mass murderers like Sharon, Milosevic, Pol Pot and even Saddam and other tyrannnical regimes or movements…
Upholding and supporting genocidal tyrants that serve the capitalist venture is an American forte…And then to discard them when they have served their purpose is also very American…
as i don’t wanna be labelled anti american…i will generalise your (brilliant ) statement:
Upholding and supporting genocidal tyrants that serve the strongest economy of the time…And then to discard them when they have served their purpose is also very specific of the strongest empire of that time:halo: (i’m talking about Greece, Egyptians…or Romans…English, French or american emprires:halo:)
ok, let’s be fair: criticizing and being jealous of the richest is the characteritics of those who are “would be” dominant empires …
underthedome, you folks consider iran to be irrational and nutjobbish, the perception of iran in pakistan is not of fear. therefore you would probably see celebrations in Pakistan if Iran got the bomb. While theres anti-Iranism in pakistan too as MiniMe mentions, its pretty mild, at par with the anti pakistani sentiment in the arab world, where I was present and witnessed the celebrations at the Pakistani nuclear bomb demo. We're sort-of allies..at some level..in our heads. So no point in trying to sell the fear you're being peddled to us, because even if that were a threat to you, it is not one to us.
Im not in the states so I dont really know the fear mongering level, but is it really that bad? I cant believe the US is seriously intent on war with Iran with its forces so close by and tied up in Iraq, unless they're deliberately intent on introducing anarchy in their second country in a row.
UTD, Iran is seen by the muslim world as a symbol of hope against oppression. Their president sure is making some lofty statements but at the very least he's someone standing up against those who have been opressing us for a long long time.
Unlike our esteemed General Musharaf who made tall claims and then started running around no all fours happily wagging his tail once the Texans came riding along. I was really happy back in the day when he got rid of Nawaz shareef....then he went on and betrayed his own brothers and sisters and got scores of them killed. Funny thing is, a lot of our people tell me he did the right thing, because if he hadnt Pakistan would've been in trouble. All i gotta say to that is ..
A day's life of a lion is better than a 100 days life of a Jackal...
Good points from everyone. The one thing we do ignore however is personal improvement. Allah does not improve the sitations of nations who donot improve themselves first. We're too busy fighting amongst ourselves, and as long as we do that we wont ever be united against the real oppressors.
Im a strong advocate of peace amongst shia's and sunni's and all other sects hell bent on blowing each other up. Offcourse in the End only one of the 73 sects are going to be on the straight path, but for now what we need to do is set our differences aside and focus on improving our situation. Once we've ensured our freedom and unity, then we can argue the finer points of various sects and their version of islam.
Kodiak your post is pure delight
BUT capitalist societies are based on ideas that are opposite to that point:D
westerners believe quantity is more important than quality, that’s wy they think best place to live is where you have the most dollars in your pocket, the most girls in your bed, and live the longest life:D:halo:…in biggest house, with biggest car, etc…
ALL the MODERN economy and societies are based on QUANTITY: mass productiun, masss transport, mass media, etc…
those who focus on QUALITY are seen as dangerous extremists:bummer:, like the french fighting for their quality food, the religious fighting for their moral quality, the organic farmer fighting for health quality by reducing pollution…
THe economy based on quality over quantity is still to invent…more nature, less chemicals…more work, less artificial energy…more moral and family values, less decadence and individualistic behaviors…
Capitalism society are indeed based on quantity and status.
In contrast a good muslim society is based on equality, peace and harmony, not bling bling. Unfortunately we are far removed from good muslim societies. You do see such people though and they generally form the core group of muslims who pray regularly in local masjids. You`ll find them together at fajr prayer almost on a daily basis, and trying to attend as many salat's together at the masjid as possible.
Those people have what I feel is true brother / sisterhood. Its truly a pleasure being in their company and one really feels the loss when one of them has to move away.
Humanity is what we've truly lost in our ever growing search for material wealth.
Look at the lives of the Sahaba (male and female). They lived such simple lives, they had nothing to eat at times and yet the the peaceful and serene demeanor that they exhibited can never be found amongst with the richest of the rich nowadays.
I`ll take the simple life of a goat farmer anyday over the glitter splendor of a newyork socialite. I only wish their were more who thought like i did.
