keep 'em coming guys!
thanks…

elborating on muzna’s idea - i know in the TO area there’s a few organizations that will come to your home and collect new/gently worn clothes that you no longer wear, and either give them, or sell them at a discounted price to the needy and homeless.

here’s a few #'s that you can contact if you’re interested.

Ontario Federation of Celebral Palsy
Toronto: 416-244-0899 or **
Toll Free:** 1-877-244-0899

the following link has a list of different organizations that accept used clothing. to find the one nearest use, please use the website given below.

on a side note, on Wed October 4th, in downtown TO there was a fire in a kitchen which the Salvation Army uses to feed over 700 hungry and homeless people. the fire burned the kitchen, including all the food supplies that they keep there. if you’re interested in donating some canned/dry food, please read the following links for more information.

sending money back home, to the needy in your community
also, although we are Muslims and Musalimahs, but if we have the ability to, our charity should be boundless.

also, whosoever we find in need and deserving of it, we should extend it to everyone regardless of whether they are from our faith or not.
that is noble and teaches humility and others are humans too.

i truly feel that the best way to give charity quietly and with no middle person
is to give to someone who you find who is needy, possibly by going to them, yourself.

& in that category, all needy people will come. most vulnerable are

orphans infants and youth, lone elderly, poor families, widows and widowers, all of whom need shelter, clothing, food, clean water, or medicine.
if we are charitable with our time, we can even extend the monetary relief to human empathy and caring treatment
by listening to the hard life stories of the poor and weak among us, and by encouraging them, guiding them, strengthening them, by good knowledge and self-awareness, & their personal rights, as well as awareness about the world and its tricks, so that even though people are weak or poor, they do not succumb to the misgivings of the heartlessness of the affluent or miserable, self-absorbed greedy people. sometimes, a kind gesture can go a long way in giving someone hope and faith.

FYI -

October 12, 2006

Dear friends and supporters,

Assalaamu-alaikum. Greetings of Peace.

Ramadan is a time for charity – feeding the hungry, clothing the needy, or
undertaking other humanitarian work. But as Muslims observe the joys and
blessings of the holy month of Ramadan, we are also reminded of the
challenges that still exist. Since September 11th, Muslim charities have
been subjected to investigations and prosecutions on questionable
allegations of supporting terrorism. In fact, just days before Ramadan began
this year, another charity became the target of a federal investigation.

This latest raid only serves to underscore our worst fears: are Muslim
Americans no longer allowed to freely exercise their religious obligation of
zakat, or charity, in the United States? We believe that this freedom,
guaranteed to all Americans, still applies to Muslims as well – but it will
take work to protect this right.

Muslim Advocates has a targeted plan to do just that. Our Muslim Charity
Works Campaign is designed to ensure the legal compliance and transparency
of Muslim charities and educate and advocate with policymakers and the
public. One service we provide is to educate Muslim American donors. As you
consider charities to support with your zakat dollars this year, we
recommend you consult our Guidance to donors:
http://www.muslimadvocates.org/more.php?id=27_0_1_0_M.

The goals of this campaign are to protect religious freedom and make certain
that US-based Muslim charitable organizations can grow and thrive without
unfair law enforcement scrutiny.

But we need you to give zakat to protect zakat. By donating to Muslim
Advocates and supporting this campaign, you can help send the message that
Muslim Americans should fear no more.

A donation to Muslim Advocates means an investment in our two program
priorities * the Muslim Charity Works Campaign and Strengthening Civic
Engagement Campaign. The Civic Engagement Campaign seeks to build the
capacity and empower the many Muslim leaders in our community who have
access to elected and government officials so that they can more effectively
advocate for rights guaranteed to Muslims and all Americans. Your support is
needed so that we can build upon the good work to date and expand our
activities and staff.

Muslim Advocates continues to make steady progress in developing a long-term
sustainable foundation for our efforts. We are very excited to report that
Muslim Advocates has received its first grant * a communications capacity
building grant from the 9/11 Civic Engagement Fund. We are hopeful that this
grant will be the first in a series of partnerships with foundations and
institutional funders.

But it is also essential that we continue to build strong support among
individual donors. A significant individual donor base demonstrates that
Muslim Advocates is an organization with considerable credibility and
financial and moral backing, particularly from the Muslim American
community. We ask for your support.
