Help plan a trip to Turkey

Re: Help plan a trip to Turkey

We went to Istanbul in December last year, it was beautiful!

We stayed at Atlantis Hotel. It was literally walking distance from Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and Aya Sophia. The room that they gave us was neat and clean(only thing the shower area was kinda small). Service was good, they also provide free breakfast to all customers. Free PC to use in the lobby. They will pick and drop you to airport for an extra charge. You can check their rates here Atlantis Hotel in Sultanahmet

Food, you’ll find lots of choices in all price ranges. Just one thing, try to avoid restaurants that are right across or next to popular tourist places because they’ll be over priced. Quality will be bad too. If you go near Grand bazaar you’ll find food is cheaper, some delicious breads with cheese/keema/veggies toppings, kababs & rice and yummy desserts. Also try their hazel nuts, they’re GOOD!

Currency, Euro dollar is more valuable than Turkish liras so keep more of these, you can convert euro into liras whenever you need to quite easily in Sultan Ahmet

Transportation, you can take cabs but they’re going to be a little expensive because the drivers are kind of chalaak in a desi way they try to overcharge you! They have a very good tram system, here’s some info Airports, Bus, Tram, Train, Taxi, Metro, Ferry & Ship Transport in Istanbul, Turkey

Sight seeing, I’ll say you can see Sultan Ahmet in 4 days. You’ll need like an entire day for Topkapi Palace Museum and more than half a day for Aya Sophia because they’re quite big. Blue mosque tour won’t take too much time. You can take tram to see Spice Bazaar but do check out which days these places are open, we unfortunately went to spice market only to find out it was closed!

Language, if you’ll be only in Sultan Ahmet then you don’t have to worry about not knowing Turkish because most places have people who speak English but if you’re going to other areas in the city then you have to know at least some Turkish to get around!

Check out virtualtourist.com for reviews from other people who went there.

I’m sure you guys will enjoy Istanbul. Turkish people LOVE desis especially Pakistanis. They’re very polite!

Hope it helps!
