Re: Hello Dear

It is my belief that they save money by putting in less characters

Re: Hello Dear

I think they get the 'Dear' mixed up with writing letters and normal speech, maybe i'm wrong.

Zobi.....we have to use 'Dear Sirs' in all all our letters in work....peeves me off! NOT EVERYONE IS A SIR....grrrrr

Re: Hello Dear

maybe they are copying desi movies?

Re: Hello Dear

I agree. This comes up everytime I am chatting with a friend or relative on IM from back home. This does sound very annoying. I have never said anything back though. This is funny to see a thread about it here. I can totally relate.

using dear in a formal letter is entirely different and a normal practice. Thats not what we are talking about.

Re: Hello Dear

uggh I dread having MSN convos with a few of my cousins in Pakistan because they chat like they're Jamaican.

"hw u doin ova dea in da states YA?!"

posers. =\

how? :aj:

our practices defines who we are.

ps. @ alig_reinvented convo with cuzin is hilarious :rotfl:

hmm I think its better to say dear than to say hello BIATCH or other wierd and offensive greetings.

Re: Hello Dear

^ Nonsense! I greet my best friend like that all time. =]

Re: Hello Dear

There yet has to be a demarcation. Is it really the term or such out of fashion terms that irritate you or its that unfortunately someone caught you up when you were already pissed off :barbie:

I personally wouldnt be bothered with by being called dear or whatever. (well but by no offensive term ofcourse :vivo: )

My irritation is a culmination of “wtf-ness” and shock at the use of the term such blatantly, such whoere-ishly and consequently, such irrelevantly. I do not know of a better way to express my concise dilemma.

exactly! pakistanis in pakistan i think practice writing letters where they start with ‘dear..so nd so..’ and they take this referral to the person and apply it to daily conversation..but they dont realize its wrong/doesnt sound right because they dont have much practice in everyday language and how we refer 2 each other when speaking.
i think the guppan who corrected you did not understand this concept..mayb they found it complicated.

Gotcha. gotcha :halo:

average mind will present the same complex notions, and great mind solve those complexities ;)

she second me for the thing i seriously dislike..i talked about the practices adapted in the formal letters....normal people follow the conventions without thinking the reasoning behind them....i take wordZ seriously...and Dear is not my cup of tea, period.

how much reasoning can b behind using dear in letter? haha...its an age old practice..its just custom 2 do it..y r u bringing philosophy into it? lolzzz..ur weird!
