heathy drink for children

Re: heathy drink for children

truly dont mean to derail the thread but I really wanted to share that the idea of cranberry juice in treating or preventing UTI’s has really fallen out of favour. There were previous (older) studies that suggest a benefit and clinicians used to make it a part of their recommendations but we now know that the quantity of the active ingredient in cranberries (A-type proanthocyanidins) that actually prevents the bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall is insufficient in cranberry juice and other cranberry based oral supplements. there may be some benefit to its use in prevention of UTI’s in women with recurrent UTI’s but thats also pretty debatable.

Here is the 2012 Cochrane review (a met@ analysis) that discusses the issue.

and here is another little blurb on the issue from Cleveland clinic.

mu apologies again for an off topic post but its well meant in the interest of public health education.
