“Freedom of speech” … it is a new concept for you (perhaps you are used to the “gun” barrel type of “freedom of speech”) … so to explain the concept, it really means that a person is “free” to express his opinion … no one stopped him to speak at the conference … he expressed whatever he had to say. Everyone has a right agree or disagree or show dissent … so people who wanted to express their dissent … they left … simple 
If you notice … he has been to “west” and expressed his views openly … even in US … when will people in his country be allowed to express themselves …
