No, i dont think it's banned. But there was a lot of controversy regarding Christopher Lee during the making of the film....PTV pulled out from the project and refused to contribute any money....

I saw Jinnah yesterday and although it’s no blockbuster it is a well made film and certainly one every Pakistani should see. The story is narrated by Shashi Kapoor a sort of guiding angel type of figure who takes Quaid–e–Azam through a journey of his past life. While Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’ was more concerned about creating a vehicle for the personality of Gandhi, ‘Jinnah’ is more about setting the record straight with regards to what actually happened. Lady Mountbatten’s affair with Nehru, Mountbatten’s dislike for Jinnah which led to the uneven carve up of Pakistan, facts which are all verifiable because they came direct from Lady Mountbatten’s diaries.

Jinnah himself isn’t treated as some superhuman, his marriage to Ruttie, a Parsi, and his daughter Dina’s decision to marry a parsi as well are all included. Jinnah’s role isn’t played by a Pakistani, something which is supposed to have created controversy in Pakistan, but both Lee and the guy who plays the younger Jinnah do a pretty good job. Anybody who doesn’t have much knowledge of Pakistan’s history should definitely watch this.

I found a couple of professional reviews on the net as well which are worth checking out:

Just a comment on the ‘banning’ of Jinnah. Not at all. In fact PTV showed the entire movie in two parts last week, in English language.

Yesterday, the first part of urdu version was aired on PTV-1 and today the second part will be shown.

I have seen the movie. It was made slightly complex by showing the death in the first scene and then flashbacks with the help of Shishi Kapoor. I mean, come on guys, what is Shashi Kapoor’s role, huh?

Otherwise an excellent movie. Every Pakistani should see it. Especially our generation, which never witnessed the independane struggle, and probably even our Dad’s weren’t in the 1947 struggle. So we must see the movie and realize what a great blessing Pakistan is. And what a great leader Jinnah was. Too many Paki kids nowadays, redicule Quaid e Azam, without realizing for one minute the horrors that would have befallen the muslims of India, if Pakistan was not here.

Adios!
