re: harem pants [merged with Ambos thread]

I'm sorry but who wants to look like MC Hammer??

Here in London, all the young girls are wearing them: either the cropped version with extreme heels or the longer versions with flat ballet pumps.... both are horrific IMHO.

Funny story actually: I was in a department store a couple of weeks back.... was stood in a queue and there are these 2 desi girls in front of me, one wearing these harem pants... a group of desi guys walk past, and burst out laughing, went up to the girl and said
"excuse me miss, i think you left your kameez at home".:CareBear:

TBH it does look like a shalwar without the kameez... just odd.

re: harem pants [merged with Ambos thread]

^patiala shalwar.

haha that smiley looks like it has a twitch in its eye. lol

OMG Maroush that cracked me up! MC Hammer was the first thing that came to my mind when I opened this thread but I didn't say anything cause I thought I might be the only one old enough to remember him!

re: harem pants [merged with Ambos thread]

^ hehehe!..:shoaby:

Ok, so we’re the GS oldies… :hinna:

Yep, I think I gave myself away with that comment. :)

:snooty: well people were hating on skinny jeans too when the trend came and then everyone was doing them so …

pakifairy: mine are kinda like the one in the pic you posted of the girl in the orange jacket…but they are not this high…hmmm i didnt know you could wear it with a boxy jacket…looks nice!

btw i think i read somewhere that the words harem and haram were related somehow…like harem meant a place where only women resided and was forbidden to men…from this came the word haram which means “forbidden”.

re: harem pants [merged with Ambos thread]

shweetdreamz- i love skinny jeans too :)

re: harem pants [merged with Ambos thread]

I wear skinny jeans... heck i wear boyfriend jeans and cigarette pants also.... but it's all about timeless items to add to your wardrobe that have longevity... and harem pants do not have that.

I say buy them... get it out of your system..... but don't spend too much on them. :)

hahahahahaha , that is well funny. I think i'm to old to go round wearing these haraaaam pants, i remember them the first time round, they didnt look good then and they certainly dont look good this time round either. I've seen loads of "clone" like girls (they all look the same!!!) wearing em and they dont look good. Long live the skinny jean.

OT but yes, absolutely they’re related. There are a whole bunch of words in Arabic that are all related, from the root h-r-m, relating to the idea of a sanctuary, something that needs protection, or in the case of ‘haram’, something we should be protected from:

haram: bad, off limits, forbidden
haram (as in haram ash-sharif): sanctuary
Harem: sanctuary of the home, off limits to public/visitors
hurma: woman
mahram: one with whom you’re entrusted–a close male relative who is off limits to marry

Also in some arabic dialects they use the word ‘******’ to mean a thief, someone who is committing haram. I know this has a worse meaning in Urdu but in the Arabic I’m familiar with it was always used to mean ‘thief.’

there’s more too but that’s what I can come up with off the top of my head…

LOL
Should have guessed that word wouldn't pass the gupshup censor. Anyhow, I think everyone will get the point.

Im in NY, alot of trends go here.

Trendy doesnt always mean attractive or nice looking.

^ Sarah, each time I see your avatar it reminds me of my beloved 3-yr-old niece; she loves 'Melmo'! :)
