Not really surprised Shamraz. In fact, perhaps, it has always been an open secret. But the fact remains that this arrangement has never been acknowledged by the army or the state.

I wonder what stops the army from claiming the credit for settling score with the TTP — you killed our general, we killed your chief. I wonder how heartening it would have been for the rank and file of the army, as well as for the nation, that its military is capable of avenging blood of its men.

Secondly, this policy of ‘track two killings’ leave the nation confused. It also raises questions if the military and the civilian leadership are on the same page or not?

It keeps the good Taliban / bad Taliban game going and what about the sympathizers? The last time the army took blame in Musharraf’s time, even for American bungled attack in drone war infancy, it got a war against it. Ideally, Pakistani state should stamp out these collaborators but you know and I know that Pakistanis “bs” and take the short easy route which is the ostrich approach.

I am pretty that many in the establishment see the short term “Pakistani losses” as nothing compared to the long game in Afghanistan. Now, that is another thing that all the games are useless if there is no Pakistan left to play them.
