Re: hair salons in karachi!

Thanks Muneeba.. Were you satisfied with the cut?

You can find Meher's contact info on Karachisnob..

Now i'm sort of confused between Nina Lotia and Meher.......!!!

Re: hair salons in karachi!

I just heard from someone that Mitra does an amazing job... any reviews? Also has anyone gone to Nadya at Bina Khan's? Please tell me about your experience at either place...

Re: hair salons in karachi!

Mitra is fantastic. She's in a league of her own. I've gotten cuts from everyone out there, including nabila, but nobody compares to mitra. Her blow dry is perfect, the layers she gives are the best... I don't think there is a better person in Karachi for hair than her.

She's really really low-key and doesn't advertise at all. I'd say she is the Bunto Kazmi of her haircuts.

Re: hair salons in karachi!

I'm really happy with Nadya Hussain at Bina Khan's. I have fine, almost-limp wavy hair and she gave me amazing layers so it looks great without blow-drying/straightening. This really is a blessing cos I've been straightening my hair for the past 10 years and I can finally let it dry au naturel now :D

I've never heard of Mitra. Where is she based and how much does she charge?

Re: hair salons in karachi!

Ps. Nadya charges Rs 2000, not 1000 as someone previously mentioned.

Re: hair salons in karachi!

I’m guessing this id who you’re taliking about?

I thinkI need to pay this lady a visit the next time in Karachi.

Re: hair salons in karachi!

Thanks for the replies guys, unfortunately they came a little too late. I ended up going to Nadya at Bina Khan's, who did a good job but the only thing that irked me was that she ended up cutting my hair shorter than I wanted her to. Sigh. But my hair grows fast, so IA it'll be ok. I'll be sure to try Mitra next time...

And ziggy, I think this is the same woman, the info looks quite accurate. When you do go to her, please be sure to write a review!

Re: hair salons in karachi!

I would say go to Sab's and ask for saba ( she's this tall tanned girl and no its not saba the owner or whatever). I swear she gave my sister the most amazing haircut ever. Women and girls were literally stopping my sister to ask her where she got her hair cut from and when she came back here everyone was in love. I regret not getting one.

Re: hair salons in karachi!

does anyone how much a haircut at Toni & Guy costs, the one in clifton? i know its different for different ppl there... like senior hair stylist n stuff... but anyone with any idea of the actual prices at the time, lemme know.

Re: hair salons in karachi!

For Toni&Guy. It depends on who you get the haircut from. Prices vary according to the Stylist's experience and their training/education level

**
Art Director (Saeeda Mandviwala) - Rs 5,000
Top Stylist - Rs 4,000
Senior Stylist- Rs 3,500
Stylist - Rs 2,500

Blow-dry- Starting from Rs 1,000

Men's haircut- Rs 2,500**

  • All haircuts include a pre-cut hair wash/massage and post-cut blowdrying and styling. Right before the cut, when the stylist is engaged in a 15-20 min consultation w/u, the guy from the cafe/juice-bar asks you if you want some refreshment or snack... i was naive enuf to think it was complimentary :P it was only after i was sitting in their waiting lounge that my eyes grazed upon the menus lying around on the tables. Prices are an upwards of Rs 100 in their menu .. anything you order is charged on your total bill at the reception

All the hairstylists, regardless of their skill level, are warm, knowledgeable and helpful.. they let you talk and share your concerns, requirements, questions and then offer their own input and insight. Ive had much more pleasant experiences with the hairstylists than with the lower level staff even though the latter doesn't have even half the knowledge/experience under its belt to be that condescending and rude (more about this below)

For me, the Senior Stylist has always been a safe bet cuz i dont go for very complicated hairstyles that involves a lot of effort and skill on the hairdresser's part but at the same time i dont want sumone who cant get the layers right cuz getting the spiky and choppy ends exactly the way i want is kinda tricky... so a senior stylist seems to work for me .. i stay close to the choppy, spiky short layers around my face, side bangs to cover my four-finger forehead and longer layers at the back . For a more drastic hair makeover involving lots of coloring, dyeing, highlights, lowlights, relaxing, perming, extensions or a completely new look that u have never had before i think the Top Stylists or Saeeda wud be a safer bet.

They are very good with Layered looks more than anything else. Each layer is precisely defined, separate from all other layers while at the same time merging easily with other layers to give a very hip, funky overall look. The best (maybe worst for some depending on how you see it) part about getting a cut from Toni&Guy is that everyone who sees the haircut KNOWS its from Toni&Guy.. they have these signature cuts and signature layers that are typically Toni&Guy and can be recognized from afar. i mostly get comments like 'oh that hairstyle is amazing it looks SO Toni&Guy where did u get it from..??' and i'd be like 'ugh..Toni&Guy.. :P'. Again, depending on how u see it, this could be both a good and bad thing.. bad because one standardized look doesn't suit all face-shapes and hair-types and u dont wanna be part of the assembly-line look where all the girls chucked out have the same hairstyle.. and good because at least if u are spending that much money people are recognizing the good work and it stands out in the crowd of mediocre haircuts and hairstyles and catches everybody's eye. Its about persective and personal preference really.

One drawback that i noticed both the times that i got a cut and while looking at the other hairstylists doing their jobs, is that these guys are so obsessed with trying to fix the WEIGHT of the hair (yes i always thot that its only important to have an even length on both sides of the head but apparently one side of the hair can be HEAVIER than the other as well :s) that they reduce the volume considerably in trying to even out the two sides.. for me, thats not much of a problem for more than a few days cuz my hair grows back pretty quick and are naturally poofy and heavy (plus my week-after-haircut hair ALWAYS look better than fresh-cuts), but for sumone with thin, low-volume hair that takes forever to grow back, this could be a potential disaster. A good idea wud be to ask the stylist before hand to let the weight be the way it is and only focus on the length .

Their blow-drys are not particularly appealing either.. they use heavy greasy products that weigh your hair down and make them look ' stringy' instead of healthy and heavy (coupled with the volume issue i mentioned above, this does not look pretty at all) and they dont really style you hair in a way that brings out the most flattering aspect of the haircut ..i get a much better result after i wash and style it at home myself..i think those little salons and parlors at ever nook and corner that charge Rs 150-350 for blow-drys do a much better job than these guys.

*** Customer Service***: No surprises there.. no matter how many international affiliations a company in Pakistan has, the customer service will still be typically Pakistani in nature. The girls hired specifically for taking down appointments are impatient .. they want answers and they want them fast..whats that? you have a question to ask THEM? how DARE u. only THEY ask u questions, u dont ask them anything.. IS THAT CLEAR?? good.

their first question is : who do you want an appointment with?? and God help u if you dont know the name of the stylist or if you simply want to explain them your requirements and ask them which stylist would be most suitable for ur case.

I read on their most recent pricecard (both online and on paper) that they offer OPI Gel Nail Extensions and got really excited cuz ive been looking for gel nails in Pakistan since forever... after i got my haircut appointment, i called them again to ask if they could fix me a consultation appointment with their manicurist so that i can discuss the possibility of gel nails on my horribly bitten natural nails and they cut me short saying WE DONT OFFER GEL NAILS and hung up.. i DID bring this up later on when i met Saeeda there.. not only is the attitude of the lower level staff appalling but the fact that the service menu boasts of services that they dont really offer is pretty disturbing too.

The receptionist, on the other hand, who is primarily responsible for transferring calls and handling the payments is much sweeter and always has a smile (fake or real i dont know, but its comforting to see it) plastered on her face and after handing you the bill, takes out time to show you different products and explain their uses to u (specially the ones that they have used on u during the haircut and blowdry). There is a product display shelf next to the reception desk stocking Toni&Guy and Label M products for sale. She even tells u the prices of the products over the phone if you require it.

Anyhoo thats just my little bit of experience with Toni&Guy, Karachi. hope it helped in sum way.
