No, it continued to happen after Islam came around. The point was women did not have the freedom they have today- at least in the West. Sex slaves had nothing to do with religion, it was culture. Women were literally OWNED by men.

You mean they were respected by the religious folks as long as what they heard pleased them.... When it threatened their beliefs, they were prosecuted. You had to study science history to figure out that there were scientists in every era, well good. I am glad you did.
Because this is about religion and Islam specifically. When people preach Islam to be the awesomest most peaceful religion then they should be prepared to hear the opposing views. You can only blame so much on culture, religion does play a role in mistreatment of women.

Women do have more freedom now than they did before. Women have more rights now then they ever had before!
